btw, the title of the thread could very well have been, "Canada's first legally married gay couple refuse to fill out proper paperwork to enter US. They returned home voluntarily."

How about if a married man and woman from the US wanted to travel somewhere in the middle east, and they were denied entry because the woman wasn't a virgin when they got married?

Then don't go to that middle eastern country.....
They should have quit bitchin and just filled out the stupid paperwork...

Border officals enforcing laws that have been around forever is an indication of where my country is heading?
Hmmm -- I actually like this direction.
What law????
It is not like if they had been convicted of criminal acts ( this you can refuse); they just got fucking married.... In what does that fact puts in danger or jeopardy your country.
Suppose two MARRIED convicted felons ( one male- one female) want to enter the USA. They are told they cannot enter unless they declare that they are single!!!....
Brilliant!

Then I would say "To fucking bad for them!" If they don't like another country's laws, then don't go there!

You seem to think they were forbidden from entering entirely.
They were not rejected for being a threat to this country. They were not rejected at all.
They refused to fill out the proper forms. They left voluntarily.
They could have entered. Fill out the forms, and enter. Not very difficult.
Adult Content UK - Great British Content
Anyway, why the hell did they want to go the the States??? To get beatin up???
They were going to speak at a civil rights conference....this seems to have gotten them more attention!
Don't get me wrong though, I am not bashing them for that. I think that gays have every right to be "married", I just think this particular case is ridiculous!
I have nothing against gay marriage, but these guys broke the law. Quite frankly, I think they knew what was up and decided to try it anyway to be publicity whores.
So they could be criminals in Canada, but not in the States ... according to your logic.
I personnally don't give a shit because ... I am divorced twice ( and still hetero ...), but the principles here ...
How would they be criminals in Canada? It's legal for gays to marry in Canada. It's just not recognized in the US.
Two guys entering the US have to fill out seperate forms. If they wanted to get in, they should have filled out the forms. What is so difficult about this?
They wouldn't be arrested under the Patriot act for lying on a custom's form. They wouldn't be arrested and extradicted to Canada for being criminals in Canada.
Fill out the proper forms. Enter the country. Enjoy your stay.

I know this is a difficult concept for some, but filling out the proper paperwork at the border is a requirement for entering the US.
They refused to fill out such paperwork.
End of story.

Why would I 'suppose' something so utterly ridiculous?

I respect the sovereignty of other nations.
They can set any entry requirements they want and if I want to enter that country I will abide by those requirements.
If for some reason I fail to qualify for entry, I won't try to go.
" they are married in Canada, but they are not married in the States " is basically what your post meant.
Now replace " married" by " criminals "
Do you get it now....
No.
I don't even know why you're talking about Patriot Acts and criminal activities, honestly. Neither has anything to do with this. But whatever floats your boat.

Broke the law of Loving someone of the same sex? Can you please site were the law for that awful crime is?
I'm just defending principals here.
And what's fucked is the same system let Mohammad Atta in even though his papers were NOT in proper order and he should have been barred entry. And both the customs officer that let him in anyway and his supervisor who said OK let him through have since gotten promoted.
In fact I have. I used to go to the American Film Market every year ... aside from 3-4 other visits every year Stayed early 80's at the Hyatt on Sunset, then at the Mondrian... Took a few days extra as relaxing time.
West Hollywood was maybe a bit too young for me ( fuck I would like to be twenty with my experience now... lol) . There was also another neighborhood called " boy-boy" near the Melrose Avenue area...
Anyway, has plenty of girlfriends in LA that I picked up at the Dome...

Originally posted by jennym First of all, I think gay marriages should be legal n the U.S. But, as of now they are not legal, so the dumbasses should have just filled out the proper paperwork if they really wanted to come here. Pot is legal now in Canada, isn't it??? But, you can't bring it on the plane with ya to the U.S.!
Pot is just de-criminalized in Canada, We can have it, carry it smoke it, but if we get caught we don't get jail time anymore, just a fine that is somehow relavent to the amount we are carrying at the time.

Ok, cool. That is why I had the question marks...wasn't sure if it was legalized or decriminalized.
Still, doesn't change my point. Fill out the proper paper work, or don't cry about it.
What law???? The morality Law??? The church's law??? The rednecks law???
Link to that law???
Gay marriage is not recognized in the US...thus they were required to fill out forms as being single individuals and not as being a married couple...they refused to do so. That is the rules/law. What is there about this that you do not understand.
When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

Has zero to do with "Loving someone" and everything to do with filling out the required paper work which is the rule/law.

exactly, we here in Canada are use to dealing with ignorant US laws and security, so what else is new? Also, I'm not gay, but I'm one of those people who don't care if anyone else is, and there is a LARGE difference between someone who is gay and someone who is a pedophile dickhead!!! maybe try using a better example next time!

In some countries marrying an 12 year old girl wouldnt make u a pedifile .. but in ours it does ... and im sure we would accept even a 12 year old and her huSband if they werent to arrogant to fill out seperate fucking forms ... just like im some countries its okay to sock another guys cock .. In Ours it isnt so FILL OUT SEPERTATE Fucking Forms? Is that to hard for your dumb canadian ass to understand? Also, if you hate our ignortant country so much... stay out of it?

Decriminalized here too.
I can get caught with an ounce, or rather UP TO an ounce and only pay a fine. Actually the same fine as Canadians maybe even less. Depending.

actually that goes on in the states too, im sure not that often but i have heard of it, and a famous example is Jerry Lee Lewis. his wife was 14 when he married her.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..
I'm a Republican, but I think gay/lesbian couples should be allowed to marry. I firmly believe that people are BORN gay and it's not a matter of choice to them, no more than it's a choice for who heterosexual people are attracted to. Being gay doesn't make you a criminal or abnormal, it just makes you a target of other people's personal opinion.
On a separate note... I'm sick of all the protests and "look at me, I'm gay!" parades. They want to be treated equality, yet segregate THEMSELVES from heterosexuals, and label themselves as different from others. They talk about free love and resort to hatred to get their message across. I have no problems with gay/lesbians. I have problems with individuals humans being fuck ups. Whether they are gay, straight, black, white or purple.
And like it has been said, that couple wasn't allowed into the US because they were gay or even denied as individuals, but the US doesn't recognize their union at this time and they have no right to complain about that, no more than an American would have the right to complain about something legal in the US, that Canada doesn't recognize. It wasn't sexual discrimination they endured, it was simply a law they could not compromise with. Making an issue out of it, is ridiculous. If they wanted to come here so badly, they would have filled out separate paperwork. They were trying to make a statement against policies that have already been in place for years and years.
You can legally drink in Canada at 18, but not until 21 in the US... I don't see any articles bitching about that?
