Wake the fuck up - people! There is a great deal of truth in Wonton's original post (whether or not he penned it himself).
It's actually scary that so many of you scoff at the notion.

Look at some simple facts:

- George Bush didn't actually win the election - He became President under the most blatantly deceitful manner, as the
entire nation stood by and did absolutely nothing.

- In the 24 hours immediately following the events of 9/11 - there were several conflicting news reports regarding the number of planes that had crashed - CNN reported that there were six and local news on the East coast reported as many as eight. Does anyone remember the whole issue regarding CA Gov. Gray Davis? He had been warned by the FAA, a few days prior, not to fly on 9/11.

Amidst the tragic events of Sept.11, the citizens of this country were shocked, frightened and heartbroken - there was a universal feeling of patriotism - President Bush became a "hero" and the deplorable way he came into office, was all but forgotten.

The conservative Republican party - being opportunist pricks, chipped away a few more of our civil rights under the guise of "national security" - with absolutely no opposition from the terrified people of America.


RICH REPUBLICANS DO NOT WANT TO SEE MIDDLE-LOW INCOME CITIZENS BECOMING RICH FROM INTERNET PORN - IT MAY JEOPARDIZE THEIR CONTROL. THEY WANT TO KEEP US WORKING BLUE COLLAR JOBS OR MIDDLE MANAGEMENT, RETAIL, ECT. SO THUS ENSURING THAT THE BIG CORPORATIONS REMAIN SO - THE RICH STAY RICH....


Get it? I hope so, because it's only the tip of the iceberg.

There is no end to the paranoid bullshit that is spewed..by those with the aluminum hats...but it is entertaining.

I don't know about you but I hardly call a slim majority in Congress, a one judge advantage in the Supreme Court, and a president elected by a margin of 5 electoral votes "control". George Bush is barely holding onto an approval rating on the positive side of 50/50. Not to mention that a Democrat was in the house for 8 of the last 12 years. What kind of control is that?

The President is nothing more than a figurehead - and as Wonton stated, the government is run by the intelligence agencies - which have more in common with right wing Republican thinking than those of Democrats. Having a Republican in office facilitates our loss of freedom, as they are quick to pass laws & legislations which chip away at our first amendment rights.

And lets not forget that Papa Bush was once the head of the CIA.

Are the 535 members of Congress...435 of which must run for re-election every two years...figureheads? They are members of the Government. Are the Supreme Court Justices...figureheads? They are members of the Government.

If the intelligence agencies run the government how could you possibly know this...since they are top secret agencies?

Are you aware that 85% of the monies budgeted by Congress to the intel agencies goes to intel agencies within the Defence Department...which would indicate that you are saying the military runs our government.

That's an interesting read on history but I don't think its the best analysis.

When there are matters of perceived national danger, both Republicans and Democrats are quick to pass laws that encroach on freedoms. No Republican has yet outdone FDR's rounding up the Japanese and Germans and locking them up in camps, Senator Mccarran drafted the Internal Security Act as a reaction to Communism and Woodrow Wilson?s Attorney General was the John Ashhahahahaha of his day.

Actually, whether we agree or not (I disagree with the Patriot Act) matters of national security ARE protected by the Constitution. The Supreme Court ruled so when Roosevelt's detainment was challenged. The ruling was that the 14th Amendment does not apply in times of national security and that it was legal to hold Japanese-American citizens and immigrants without a trial.

The general rule I have found is that perceived dangers to national security cause protectionist measures by the party in power, no matter which party it is. Look at how the various political parties switch back and forth over time in writing such legislation. What is the common theme? Fear, not the party.

The Civil War --> Suspension of Habeas Corpus, Lincoln (R)
Palmer Raids ?> WW I Red Scare (D)
Smith Act --> Communism and Socialism (Not sure)
Pearl Harbor --> Japanese internment (D)
McCarran act --> Communism (D)
McCarthyism --> Beginning of Cold War (R)
Patriot Act --> 9/11 (R)

The Patriot Act will come and go like all the above. First the lower courts will hear cases that are believed to be in violation of the Constitution and eventually there will be enough unresolvable contradictions that it will reach the Supreme Court. I saw an interview with Sandra Day O?Connor a few months ago who explained this in excellent detail.

None of that changes my opinion that I think we'd be better off without the Patriot Act.

Hmmm, lemme see.

I guess presiding over millions of employees, having the ability to issue executive orders, being commander in chief of the US armed forces, having control of the National Guard, nominating Supreme Court and Federal Court Justices, nominating the heads of all executive offices, choosing his cabinet, preparing the budget, having veto power, having the ability to propose legislation, and appoint ambassadors doesn't impress you.

You did not pay attention Colin...it is those $70,000 per year employees in the 14 different intel agencies that provide him with his orders. Those same employees also select who will run for the house every two years...insure that only their people are elected...and tell the enitre Congress what bills to propose and pass...and in addition instruct the Supreme Court on what cases to hear and how to decide those cases. Pay attention Colin "the government is run by the intelligence agencies".

- $600 billion of pure cash narco-dollars that go through Wall Street each year. Read up on Iran-Contra to find out how the CIA controls the bulk of international drug-trade funds that they use to fund their covert operations (such as Iran-Contra and many others).

- Last year the Pentagon rountinely admitted that they cannot account for MORE THAN $1 TRILLION!!! Where do you think that money went? Who do you think profitted? If the folks at the Pentagon can sweep this unbelievable amount of money under the rug WITHOUT ANY GOVERNMENT INQUIRIES OF ANY SUBSTANCE then who do you think is really in charge?!?

It is my adament contention that America is really a military dictatorship disguised as a democracy. A military coup occured in front of everyone's eyes on November 22, 1963. On that day, JFK was killed by elements of the US military and intelligence communities. Since that day, the military has been in charge of the good old USA.

I have studied the assassination from virtually every source. Ordinary claims...such as Oswald assassinating the President...require ordinary proof...and the proof is overwhelming that he did assassinate the President. Extraodinary claims...made by conspiracy theorists...attributing the assassination to a variety of groups somewhat dependent upon a particular theorist's agenda...requires extraordinary proof and this proof is non existent...only conjecture exists. As I have said before the conspiracy theorists/kooks are amusing.
