Let's Talk About Hold Em Poker

So, I am a pretty good player, I think. Not enough to brag about anything, but I do well.

One thing I don't understand about it, sometimes I will go on a big streak and have the pocket and / or flop treat me really well and then I will have long streaks where I will either get shitty pockets or seemingly good ones and fucked on the river.

My question is this: is it just a matter of patience and folding for this streak to get over with, and capatalize on the winning streaks, or do you think the poker software delegates a certain ratio of good vs. bad hands/flops/rivers according to your amount of play and deposits?

streak? on a clean shuffle you should not get streaks. stats are stats. I've seen a run of hands where I've done well, but thats a matter of knowing when to fold.

I've had some pretty wicked streaks myself.

On the play money maxim servers for truepoker.com I recently won a tournament in very short order.

First hand of the game I was dealt pocket aces.

The flop turned up Ace of Spades, King of Spades and a low spade.

        Another spade on the Turn.

        River card King of Clubs.

Bunch of people on the table hit flushes and bet all in. Everyone went down to Aces over Kings full boat.

I remember thinking "what luck" just as I'm dealt pocket kings on the very next hand. I didn't lose a hand for the first 7 or 8 hands.

After winning that tournament, I played in the next one that started. Handily, I was out within 10 minutes.

My luck tends to work like that though I guess.

It's all about the right betting...

If you bet right you could be a winner even if you get shitty cards almost all the time...

You get the exact same streaks in live poker but they happen slower because you get less hands per hour. I consistently destroy the online low limit and no limit games but I also have very long very shitty runs at times.

Only played a few time with you fellas but one thing I did notice all the winners doing was folding. ALOT! And the losers like me were trying to bluff and got stung almost everytime. Seems that with 8 people on the table, bluffing is a waste since someone is going to have a decent hand no matter what.

fold and win, if you can keep paying the blinds. bluffing online is tough, easier for me in person. esp after 20-30 hands, you get to read people better.

fuck, i need to play more.

If you have a lot of great streaks and a lot of bad streaks but not a lot of steady but slow winning in between, it's a lot more likely to be poor play than a scamming poker site.

                        It's called standard varience.

It happens at all limits to all players. The key to poker is to get your money in when you have the best of it and protect it when you dont.

A general rule for cash games is to have a bankroll of 200 big bets (whatever the big blind is in NL, or the bet after the turn on limit games)

Having 200 big bets should keep you covered and let you work through swings.

I find lower limit online games to be quite soft and beatable.

Simple rules for cash games, don't bluff becuase some idiot will almost always call, and when you have a killer hand don't just go all in, bet so that someone will call you, you make no money going all in and everyone folding, you're much better off betting $5 and having someone call you to the river then betting a little larger.

If anyone wants to play on Party or Empire poker, I kick back 50-75% of all affiliate bonuses I get from those card rooms back to the player for signing up through me. You'll get back about $25 for every 1000 hands you play.

Harder to do online then in person.

I am pretty good in real life, but online.. I fucking suck. So I stay away from it. I prefer online blackjack or something.

I've been thinking about that. I've noticed a lot of repetitive actions when I get certain hands. Lets say I have pocket 3's. What tends to happen is another pair pops up on the flop. Shit like that, I've noticed a lot of other ones too. I think it is mainly random like it should, but I think it limits it to a point. They don't want you to keep losing/winning or you may get tired of the game, and therefore not play ;)
