PORTLAND -- The FBI has arrested a Portland lawyer in connection to the train bombing in Madrid, Spain on March 11.
Brandon Mayfield, 37, is the United States' first link to the deadly bombings that killed 191 and injured another 2,000.
Mayfield has been detained but has not yet been charged with anything. His fingerprints were allegedly found on a bag containing bomb materials that are directly linked to the Madrid bombing.
There had been around the clock surveillance on Mayfield up until the time of his arrest Thursday. He has not yet been charged with anything but can be held without being charged because he is a material witness in the grand jury investigation.
Mayfield has ties to one of the infamous "Portland Seven." He represented Jeffery Battle, one of the seven in a child custody case after Battle was arrested
Mayfield is a recent convert to the Muslim faith and those at the mosque where he attended were shocked to hear about the arrest.
