Some facts you may not be aware of on SMS Billing:

          1. Payment cycles from 3-9months...yes thats right SMS generated in month 1 wont be paid for as long as 9 months

          2. Chargebacks. or as we like to call them non-collectables, can be up to 65% of your total revenue.

          3. EU E-money directive may at any time in the next 3 months make it illegal for mobile operators to offer this solution, as they will require a banking licence.

          4. Reveue share to webmaster is only 30% of the end user price.

          5. Maximum charge is £1.50 / Eur2 per day, if anymore you're breaking the mobile operators code of practice.

Get SMART, leave SMS well alone, stick with what works:

          Credit/Debit cards. Dialers.

We offer SMS Billing but we always let our customers know the downside.

I can't agree to 100% with all this:

              1. We have a permanent payment cycle of up to MAX 2 months
              2. 65% is a very high number, we've experienced approx 15% maximum in UK
              3. They may do, but why not use while it is active?
              4. That depends on the deal with the webmaster but may be true, operator payouts are bad =( But if you add to that that more people will buy when SMS is available as a solution it counts up to more money..
              5. That's not true, for example in Germany we can bill ?2.49

I can though agree to that SMS has its downsides because of the rather low payouts from the operator, but on the other side, we get a lot more buyers with SMS so in the end it doesn't really matter, we earn the same or more money most often!

Ludvig: Yep, we use SMS as primary billing in many places, our newest creation for example is: www.smsvid.com

We have over 100's of partners using SMS billing as a primary billing method especially now that the CC processors are NOT processing.

Some of what is said in here is correct, however there are downsides and upsides to all payment methods.

Hows about the chargeback levels Visa and MC have imposed...

Recurring is also not a problem on the networks where MT (Mobile Terminated) billing is an option.

Basically SMS is now a true billing option and it really comes down to what works for you.

                  5. depends on mobile operator, there are mobile operators that allow you to charge up to 50euro over sms, of course only domestic.

                    mrblack,

is MT even allowed to be used this way? You can't just send out MT SMS msgs to anyone now can you? They have to agree to it to some point? And possibly agree to it every single time you want to send one, no?

From my own experience I can tell you that there are several countries where people won't use their credit card online, even if they have it.
They are afraid of being charged more that they can afford, they are afraid of security.
In America people pay with credit cards every day and if someone wants to pay huge amount in cash, it is suspicious.
But there are so many other countries where the huge majority pays only in cash, they don't have credit cards or if they have them, they are afraid to use them ( even offline ).
I know people who send out sms'es to random people when they are drunk.
But no one of them would give cash to a stranger on the street.
Sms'es work like cc's - you pay now, but you don't think of it as a payment, since you'll have to pay it in about 1 month.

If someone uses his credit card once a week, then he may not remember the details etc. when he's currently masturbating in front of the PC. But in the same time, he's sending about 2-6 sms'es daily to friends etc.
If he notices a site that asks for his cc, he will say "fuck the scammers", or "no, thanks, i am afraid of that" and will leave.
On the other hand when he sees "send a sms to get instant access", it's obvious that he will be likely to do it.
This is just from the surfer perpective. I don't work with sms billing, but started a thread about this ( which got bumped today ), because I was interested why so few people involved in th online adult business don't make use of this payment method.
                      I don't use ICQ anymore.

                        I agree with this

and I know few girls that spend 30euro daily sending smses to 20-30 of their friends and chatting all day-night, soo if she can pay for phone logos, ring tones with one sms, she will do it too.
                        same for guys buying porn.

In italy, mobile operator itself has make xxx website only for wap-gprs users and its sucessfull.

                          Can't more than agree!

To the MT-billing thing I can add some things.
Like for subscriptions services in Sweden you aren't allowed to bill more than 200 SEK a month.
In England you can't bill more than 15£ a day (puh, that's much enough though according to me)
                          Etc etc.. There are regulations!

But you are allowed to do it..
