If you aren't making much (maybe less than 40k adult income) and aren't incorporated then an accountant may not be worth it. But if you are making more than that, then in my experience accountants pay for themselves. They are able to find business and personal deductions that you never heard of. And of course if you are incorporated then an accountant is basically a must unless you are quite familiar with GAAP yourself.
With the help of my accountant I do my bookkeeping myself using QuickBooks Pro; the Canadian version has duel currency features and makes it a breeze for Canadian adult webmasters - most of whom have US and CDN accounts/transactions. The accountant then takes care of the rest.Comment

When we first started we didn't need one, but as we started hiring staff and actualy making some decent money we hired an accountant. I sleep better. I recommend getting one if you are not an expert.opinions are like assholes.................

I'm one step away from court right now. I've been audited, re-assessed, now I'm waiting for their assessment of my appeal of the re-assessment for 1999 and 2000. I have an accountant who basically gave me lots and lots of homework but doublechecked everything for me before I handed it in. He doesnt' care where my money comes from. He figures expenses should be tied to the income they generate, as per tax law. Unfortunately, CCRA doesn't always see it that way.Originally posted by WiredGuy

No, it wasn't hard to find an accountant. But I may have to upgrade to a more high-powered model if I do go to court over this.
