It's of course not going anywhere. Why do insurances (insert global fast food franchises, medical equipment suppliers, etc.) have contractual sales force that get paid per signed contract, per unit sold? Why do they just not keep everybody on payroll and cut out the middle man?
It's a question of how many elements of the
value chain you want to keep inhouse.
