I don't know how old you are Wonton, but there have been SOOOO many books, and publications pushing these theories for AT LEAST 25 years (when I started to become aware of them). They all predicted the same kind of stuff with the same kind of "evidence", secret power groups and mind control. I was really into it for about 6 or 7 years, and then I started to realize that the stuff they were talking about wasn't happening.
I know that it all seems very real and iminent to you now, but in 10 or 15 years, you will probably start to realize that it STILL hasn't happened yet and just get on with your life.
I was pissed that I had wasted those years all caught up in that crap, but I know that nothing I can say will change your mind right now so all I will say is......Good luck dealing with all THAT stuff.Michael Sperber / Acella Financial LLC/ Online Payment Processing

Evidently not enough Americans read BBC. Because if they did, they would know that 6 of the supposed 9-11 hijackers are still alive!!! Where is the outrage that the US government was caught in a boldface lie about such an important oversight?! For more info on that, search GFY for my post on that same subject.Originally posted by jigg
and your evidence of that is where?
I can tell you and write a lot of things too, doesn't mean it's true.
Maybe FOXNews, since it's run by an ex-republican strategist.
The only reason why CNN and MSNBC don't counter FOXNews is because they're afraid they'll lose ratings
People aren't stupid, there are many places to get the news. Especially with the Internet being so popular. Lots of americans read foreign news sources such as the BBC etc. During the war many watched BBC News' coverage of the war.
Is the BBC bought too? I believe they're the one that created all the problems for Blair, who may well be kicked out of office
ABCNews is owned by the government, the same one they just sneaked by depleted uranium and now FBI is slaping their wrists for doing it. Why would ABC play that game and reconfirm what most people know already.
How about this Called off the trail
Why would they air this?
There's little truth in the conspiracy sites, they're run by anarchists, paraniods, communists and others.
I've learned that after reading at one how good Milosevich was and how bad everyone else were. Being from that region there I knew enough that's complete bullshit. Or I guess the press over there is also owned and can't be trusted
Why did ABC News showcase that problem with sneaking in the depleted uranium? They are doing EXACTLY what the government wants and dictates them to do, depsite the outward appearance.
-Hey look! We were able to sneak depleted uranium thru Homeland Security!
- End result: Gee, I guess we need to increase homeland security and expand government powers even more to ensure that this sort of thing does not happen again.
The bottom line: the ABC story on the uranium ultimately is in the government's best interest!!Comment

I concede that there is a lot of crap out there in terms of "conspiracy nonsense". I don't allow myself to get caught up in ANY of that. I can proudly say that I have not read a single "conspiracy" book of any kind. I put my information together based on inconsistencies I find within the mainstream press and within government reports. Then I simply read books that cover topics such as the CIA, the military, geopolitics and more. All of these books are "mainstream". Heck, I even read the Encyclopedia Brittanica. When you put it all together, it is obvious what is happening.Originally posted by sperbonzo

And to address your other point, we don't have to wait 10-15 years until "it" happens.
"it" has already happened. "It" is the Patriot Act and the office of Homeland Security. Both of these monsters will only continue to grow. Year after year, life in the US will become increasingly controlled for the average citizen.Comment

And just one more point, I do not talk about "secret power groups". I don't believe in any of the Illumanti nonsense. The power groups are well known and out in the open, though their actions are perpetually "Classified" so we never know the full extent:
CIA
FBI
NSA
Military Contractors
Media ConglomeratesComment

Just take a look at Congress. Do they ever act as anything but a house divided?
Even different networks have completely different takes on events. You can't reconcile the view of the NY Times a week into the war in Iraq that the war wasn't going well with the Fox News Networks obvious optimism.
If "NOTHING the media reports is really against the government's interest", why is it that different elements of the media will report either favorably or unfavorably on any particular event.
How was the Monica Lewinsky story in Clinton's interest? How about Watergate? How about Iran/Contra? the Pentagon Papers? These were stories broken in the mainstream US press. What benefit did the government" gain from them?

The "government" that I am referring to is not the external government that people think runs the country (president, congress etc). The government I am referring to is the REAL government of the United States of America. The people who really run this country are the intelligence services: CIA, NSA and certain branches within the Pentagon. They in turn collude with elements of Wall Street. It is these people who collectively make up the true government. The Yahoos in the white house and capitol building are merely pawns, expendable ones at that. When you analyze things from that angle, you will find that NOTHING the major media prints goes against these interests.Originally posted by Colin

Consider that even the President of the United States is only in office for 8 years. Many presidents are only in office for 4 years. Take into consideration that powerful individuals at the CIA and within the Pentagon have been there for decades, operating in the shadows under the benefit of an officially secret charter. These are the people that essentially advise the President on what he should or should not do in the world. Who really runs the US? Who really runs the world?

Again, my premise is that the President does NOT run foreign policy and does NOT have anywhere near the influence that people think he has.
The real government is run behind the scenes, from the bowels of the Pentagon and CIA HQ in Langley Virginia. And their agenda is towards a facist, totalitarian regime.Comment

Contrary to what you hear from the talking heads on Wall Street, that the economy will rebound and that oil is not an issue, the CIA has been studying energy issues since 1973 at the time of the OPEC oil embargo. Their own experts have been extensively quoted that global oil production is on the decline, that new discoveries are not keeping up with demand while the need for oil and gas is only increasing. They know that the peak of the Hubbert curve has already been passed several years ago and that severe economic catastrophes are just around the corner for those industrialized nations that have not secured massive oil reserves. Iraq and Saudi Arabia are the two largest oil reserves on the planet. They are the target. Presidents and politicians be damned - the CIA steered the administration into a war with Iraq to secure the planet's remaining oil reserves.Originally posted by Colin

Reasons for war.
#1. Iraq was defeated on the field of battle and signed certain terms. Iraq has been in violation of those terms since they signed the terms in '91. The USA has demanded that those terms be complied with and that Iraq remain a defeated country.
#2. Iraq attempted to assasinate a former American President.
#3. Iraq has fired upon, almost daily, for almost 11 years, USA military forces.
#4. Iraq is believed to have, or are acquiring, or are attempting to acquire WMD's. The USA will not allow that.
#5. Iraq has, on multiple occassions called for Americans, to be killed where ever they are found. Thus they are a sworn enemy of the USA.
#6. Iraq is a strategic piece of real estate for future military operations against our enemies in the region, which number in the 100's of millions.
#7. Iraq is a strategic piece of real estate for its oil fields and for the surrounding oil fields, for as the worlds oil supplies dwindle the USA will be in a position to control the dwindling oil supplies for its use and the use of its European allies.
#8. A take over of Iraq sends a very powerful signal to the other countries in that area of the world that if they don't get their act together they will be next.
Any one of the reasons above is a reason for war.

As the global oil supply dwindles, energy resources will increasingly be allocated to the rich and powerful. I think I am safe in assuming that you are neither rich nor powerful and hence you will be one of the wannabees, with the rest of the sheep. The reason for all this Homeland Security, Patriot Act and increasing facism is not to protect from external enemies. On the contrary, it is to protect the rich and powerful from the common American.
The corporate elites, the CIA and others in the intel services know that a massive economic shockwave will hit the western world within a decade. When it does, there will be massive civil unrest. We are talking about an economic collapse that will be four times greater than the depression of the 1930s, maybe even much larger than 4x. When it hits, there be a razor-sharp division between the haves and the have-nots. The middle class WILL be virtually eliminated. Homeland Security will keep the masses in line while the elites continue to live a life of luxury. To understand this in a historical context, read up on Russia just prior to the 1917 revolution.
Oil and gas will be depleted within 30 years and it is unfortunately too late to make a smooth transition to alternative energies. The window of opportunity was there in the 1970s. At that time, President Carter actually did the right thing. He called on Americans to conserve. He called on industry to accelerate development of alternative energies. He installed solar panels on the whitehouse. But just a few years later, when Reagan came to power, the solar panels were torn down and America's energy policy was turned over to the short-sighted greed of Wall Street. It is now too late. Even if the entire world started TODAY to convert our entire industrial infrastructure to alternative energies, there would not be enough time to avert the first massive shockwaves which will virtually turn the industrialized nations upside down. And no, we won't go extinct as a race. But humanity is about to enter a new dark age that might last up to several decades.
All of you reading this board will unfortunately become the sheep, the serfs at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. When that day arrives, just remember that there was once a wise guy named Wonton, with too much time on his hands, who tried to warn you.Last edited by wonton; 09-15-2003, 01:34 PM.Comment

The Germans also are back in the game. A pilot plant for the liquefaction of coal is being constructed in the Ruhr, and on becoming operational in the spring of 1981 it will have a capacity for converting 75,000 tons of coal annually into 157,000 barrels of light and medium oil and liquid gas. Early in 1980 the West German government approved an ambitious program involving the construction of 14 large plants for the liquefaction and gasification of coal, requiring the investment of $7 billion by 1993. By 1986 the Germans expect to satisfy 10 percent of their current gasoline needs in this fashion.39
This, of course, is a hopeful sign for the United States. With respect to foreign exchange, dependence on others, and more than adequate coal deposits at home, there exist some remarkable similarities between the United States today and the Germany of the 1930s and 1940s when it comes to synthetic fuel production.
It was the dearth of foreign exchange after World War I that motivated the Germans to search for alternative supplies of fuels; the current annual expenditure by the United States of $90 billion which alone creates our gigantic balance-of-payments deficit is a parallel phenomenon. While the dollar is still recognized and accepted as a principal currency?unlike the German mark after 1918?our huge payments for imported petroleum constitute a devastating hemorrhage of national substance, glut the foreign money markets with increasingly devalued dollars, and create inflation at home and indebtedness overseas. Just as Germany then and now was dependent on outside sources for its supply of liquid energy, so the United States today is forced to rely on foreign suppliers for approximately half its fuel needs. This dependence jeopardizes America?s ability to act free from intimidation and circumscription in matters of foreign policy. Economically, the latitude of OPEC to raise oil prices at will has immediate and, in the long run, intolerable implications for this country.
However, the vast coal deposits in the United States afford this country an incomparably better opportunity to become largely energy-independent than Germany with its coal, beds had in the 1930s and 1940s or even now. In contrast to this country, Germany?s coal reserves are virtually depleted, and what is left is difficult and costly to extract. The price of a ton of coal in Germany currently is $100, compared to $25 per ton in the United States.40
Different methods need to be applied in producing synthetic fuels, depending on the type of raw material used and the end-product desired. Whatever scientific-technical approach will ultimately be deemed preferable, there is no doubt that from a purely technological point of view this country can assure itself of adequate supplies of fuel in relatively short order.41 The actual problem is not one of technology so much as one of political responsibility, courage, will, and wisdom on the part of the administration and the United States Congress. The approval of a $20 billion synthetic fuel program by the United States Congress is a first, cautious step in the right direction. Anyone who might be appalled at the sums which need to be invested?the $20 billion is only part of a total of $88 billion to be expended for this purpose?need only remind himself, however, that at the present time we spend more than that total amount every year for imported petroleum.
A word of caution, though. The magnitude of the problem facing this country has another dimension that should not be underestimated. At the peak of their synthetic fuel production in 1943, when half of their economy and their armed forces ran on synthetic fuel, the Germans produced 36,212,400 barrels of fuel a year. At current rates of imported fuel alone, that quantity in this country would last all of four and one-half days! When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

Actually, I'd say your view is the popular one but it is not quite correct. An often quoted view is that the Federal Reserve is a government institution but that it is really a private bank.Originally posted by wonton
The CIA is also under the direction of the Federal Reserve which, contrary to popular assumption is actually a PRIVATE BANK. The Fed is NOT a government-owned institution as most people believe. Just look in your telephone book. In the government blue pages you will NOT find the Federal Reserve. But you will find it in the white pages.
In fact, the Federal reserve enjoys a unique status which is both federal in many aspects operating independently of executive decisions but also private in other aspects. Congress does have the ability to eliminate or reduce the power of the Federal Reserve and for that reason the Reserve decisions are never completely apolitical nor is it particularly private as compared to governmental.
The Federal Reserve was created by Congress and its governors are appointed by the president. They must be confirmed by the Senate. Below that are a number of positions and offices which serve private interests.
Both within the Fed and outside the debate as to the legal status of the Federal Reserve. Various legal decisions over the years have deemed the Fed to be an "independent department" of government.
I'd be quite surprised to find the Federal Reserve in my Miami phone book. I'll check later for you though. For the record, you can find the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in the Washington DC Blue Pages.
An excellent book on the Federal Reserve is "Secrets of The Temple". It's more than a decade old now but still excellent and hell, it has "secret" in the title. You should really read it. I just re-read it a few months ago actually.

The book I recommended a few posts above by Heinberg, systematically picks apart the notion that coal could be used as an alternative to oil. It is not energy dense enough to satisfy the current needs. Conversion to coal would cost trillions of dollars and coal-liquification plants are not even on the drawing boards in the US.Originally posted by theking
Coal could conceivably be used for electricity but for all the other current uses for oil in our society, coal is a no-go as are many of the other synthetic fuels.
Even alternative energy technologies (solar, wind, shale-oil, etc.) are no where near the level needed to replace oil. Again, even if we started TODAY to rapidly change the current infrastructure to alternative fuels, there would not be enough time. To add insult to injury, industry is not even trying since the current climate is bomb and invade as many middle-eastern countries as possible and steal their oil. That strategy will only work for a maximum of 10 years. After that, it will be time to pay the energy piper. And that will be a disaster unlike anything that has occured in human history.Comment

I have read Secrets of the Temple and it is on my bookshelf next to the Rothbard book I recommend above. Secrets of the Temple contains some misinformation. Rothbard's book is the real deal. Buy it and then compare it to "Temple" and I am sure you will agree.Originally posted by Colin

Wonton,
You should be able to easily figure out that the Federal Reserve is both public and private. Contrary to your claim, the Federal Reserve Board IS in the government bluepages, for example.
Jesus, take 2 minutes and just look at their website. "The Federal Reserve System is not "owned" by anyone and is not a private, profit-making institution. Instead, it is an independent entity within the government, having both public purposes and private aspects". Link: http://www.federalreserve.gov/faq.htm
The truth is out there. Will you believe it when you see it?
What kind of twisted sick childhood does a conspiracy theorist like yourself have? Gang-raped by Albino spider-monkeys that day at the zoo? Do tell.

Buddy, the federal reserve board might be in the blue pages because the members of the board are appointed by congress. But the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK IS NOT IN THE BLUE PAGES and that is what I stated!!! The Fed is owned by shareholders who are private individuals. None of the shares are owned by the government, and by extension the American people.Originally posted by Colin

It seems that it is you that has been raped by albino spider monkies as you are unable to put two and two together.
Given your last post it is clear that you were lying when you stated that you read "Secrets of the Temple". Even that book covers the basic ground that I outline above.Comment

To put it in another context for your feeble brain - if Microsoft allowed the US government tomorrow to appoint a few members of its board, the government might list this board in the blue pages. But Microsoft itself would not be listed in the blue pages nor would the US government suddenly own Microsoft. Microsoft would remain an independent public company. The government would simply have some say on their board.
With the Federal Reserve the situation is much worse because the Fed is a PRIVATE (as opposed to public) institution.

I'm looking at it right now. Read Chapter 2, page 49. According to a court ruling, "The Federal Reserve was an "independent department" of government." For further proof, page 129 begins with the word "now".Originally posted by wonton

You can deny my claim, you can deny US court decisions, you can deny the claim of the Federal Reserve itself. You can run circles until you are blue in the face but no degree of conspiracy "yeah, but ..." rhetoric can save you from the truth. The simple matter is you repeated as gospel the claim that "most people think the Fed is federal, but in reality it is private" when in fact every legal definition of the FED is that it's status is mixed. You repeated a common adage. That is all.
"The Federal Reserve system is an independent entity within the government, having both public purposes and private aspects." - The Federal Reserve website.
The Federal Reserve owes more of its partial federal status to just the fact that it's board of governors is federally appointed. The Federal Reserve also has as it's aim the stability of the US economy. Read Greenspan's quarterly comments to that effect or again check out their website.
More from the Fed website, "the Federal Reserve must work within the framework of the overall objectives of economic and financial policy established by the government."
If you indeed have read any book on the Fed, or even a few websites on it, it would be more than apparent to you that your original claim is nothing but a popular adage.

You are relying on the federal rerserve's website to learn about the Federal Reserve? That is like relying on the CIA's website to learn the "true history" of the CIA. Do you think they will lay out all the facts on Iran Contra om their site?Originally posted by Colin

I am not denying any FACTS whatsoever.
I maintain my "gospel truth" that the Federal Reserve is a PRIVATE BANK that is 100% PRIVATE with 0% ownership by either the US government or the American people. If you want to buy into the Fed's own PR about being public and private (which is a clear contradiction in terms) then go ahead. That's like saying something is both solid and liquid. I will not persist in arguing with you about a semantic distinction.
Semantics aside, the Federal Reserve is owned, 100%, by non-government individuals, most of whom do NOT EVEN RESIDE IN THE UNITED STATES.
My whole point about bringing the Fed into this discussion was not to debate how they are perceived by you or I but rather that they are intimately tied into the CIA and its operations. Now that is a whole other story that you can research if you are interested.Comment

Awareness, not picketing or demonstrating, is all that is needed to effect a significant sociological change. The current system works and is heading towards a train wreck for the simple reason that the masses *are not aware*.
Of course, wearing a tin foil hat would not hurt either.
