I haven't done this for soldiers but I have done it for college kids and old folks sitting all alone. For me the coolest part was not letting them know who had done it.. The first time I tried this I told the waitress I'd leave her $20.00 on my $6.00 tab if she would just tell them their breakfast had been paid for. I get just random people from time to time. Usually it's at breakfast, I get them when they least expect it

Someone did something very similar to me one time. I was pulling up to a toll booth and the attendent told me that the person in the car ahead of me already paid my toll.
That happened 7 years ago and it's still fresh in my mind. It's amazing how far a good gesture can go.
