    Let's talk some art

went to an art studio a few weeks ago, and found a piece I really fucking love..... actually found about 30 pieces I love, but one that was in my price range and was awesome....

here's the thing.... it's flawed. Not badly, but it's still flawed. So small, the common eye would never notice. But I would always know it's there. Anyway... she was willing to cut the price from $4700 down to $900.... BUT.... based on the formula she gave me, in percentage versus original price, her calculations were wrong. Still, it's a screaming deal.... even though she's off by about a grand.

should I take it and run, or make a stink and try to dig the price down a few hundred bucks more?

this fucker would look so great in my main hall/entry/skylight/cathedral.... I want it bad. Not like I'm gonna let them know that.

Go far it. Sometimes it's the flaws that make great art even greater.

the flaws are not inherent to the art.... they are definately after the fact. Some dipshit's screwup in the gallery. But again.... noticeable only if you're three inches from the canvas looking for something..... where I would hang it, you couldn't get within 12 feet of it.

buy it, but act like you kinda dont wnt it and that you're doing them a favor by taking it

then maybe you get a discount on the next one since you arent real happy with this one

hmmm..... they would definately know I was interested, going back again on the same piece.... but I like the second part there.... maybe point out a half dozen other pieces I like, and hint toward a hookup....

I'm gonna work that angle. Good call.

art's about the piece... not the price tag. most art is flawed in some way or another, if it's not immediately noticable i don't think it'll much matter.

Flawed art that you see daily usually take away from the appreciation of it once the art of the good deal wears off in a few months and your left staring at something that you know isn't what it should be.

if you like it, get it

if it is going to bug you, then it doesn't matter if you spend 1K or $20...you have to like art to keep it.

that is why most galleries will let you take a piece home to try it out, if you dont like it, return it

If you wouldn't touch it at the non-flawed price, but truely consider it at the lower price, grab it and consider yourself lucky for finding such a great piece..

Pix when you get it home..... ;)

actually, I like it at the unflawed price too.... it's just that nice. The discount only made it more attractive..... but again, I hate flawed shit.... I think the initial uphoria of the deal would wear off after a month or so, and I'd be stuck with a flawed piece.

can't know for sure if that'd happen, but that's my fear.

I take it some of you have never seen a van gogh up close, or a degas, a cezanne...flaws galore.

To assume great pieces of art have no flaws is to confuse art with graphic art.

I've seen globs of paint painted over on a van gogh, pencil lines running rampant through a degas.

real art is made by humans, not machines, and errors and flaws are part of the package.

If you're buying a print, then that's another matter.

sorry that has to have been the most unintelligent comment on this thread.

take a trip down to a real museum some time. I've already posted regarding the flaws I've seen on some of the works from the a few of the most influential artists ever .

Amp if she fucked up and you're getting it a lot cheaper then you should just on it, she may figure it out in the long run and you'll end up paying more for it, or regretting you did not get it.

Art does change in value depending on the artist, the piece, how flawed it is and more...but, if it appeals to you it's all that matters. It's about the personal pleasure it brings you more then anything.

I have some real old artwork, books from the 17-18th century, jars from the Middle Ages, small primitive tools from the Stone Age and I love them the way they are.. they have been used for a long time and it makes them even more valuable for me. Mix that with light furniture, light marble floor and the outcome is perfect for me at least.
