Whois Personal Info Requirement may be illegal

It is nice to see people remembering that basic human rights, and other principles, apply to people who use the internet too...

that talks about PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS.... as an adult webmaster, you are in this for commercial gain, and don't you fucking deny it. Given that basic element, it's YOUR fucking responsibility to conduct your business like a business.

Get a fucking business line, a P.O. Box, and whatever else you feel necessary to separate your commercial ventures from your personal private life and STOP FUCKING WHINING!!!

Did you even read what I wrote? I said this is about personal use, not business use. My domains have contact information on them, shitstain. This isn't about me, or whining. It's about some of the issues that were raised in previous discussions, about actual privacy of private individuals.

There are some standards that say that there are rights it should not be legal to make someone sign away, even by choice to get something else they want. Even if you don't agree with such standards, I bet you are intelligent enough to discuss the issue without so much use of the clever intellectual tools known as ALL CAPS and LOTS OF EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!

Getting a domain is sort of like getting your drivers license... it's not a right, it's a privilege.

like I said, no one is forcing anyone to register a domain. Don't like the requirements? Don't register. Same as buying a house. You buy a house, the details are public fucking knowledge. Don't like it? Don't buy a house. No one is forcing you.

For the record: My favourite thing about Amp's insta-rant was that I didn't express much in the way of opinion. I made a brief general comment, and presented two URLs. Interesting response... for a grown man, anyhow.

the problem I have with it is, this is not a mandatory thing. You want your privacy? Fine. Don't voluntarily submit your so called "private" info to a database that is brutally public. It's not fucking rocket science.

I could easily turn that around. Present to me one reason why the whole world needs to have a way to contact every person who runs a website with it's own domain.

To put that in the form of a reason: Nothing necessary about the administration of domains necessitates making private information about private individuals available to everyone with a computer. You can have an unlisted phone number, right?

The people who might need to track you, like law enforcement, can get a warrant to track you down based on your domain or your phone number. The people who administer the domain (or phone system) likewise have ways to contact you. Why take it any further?

Didn't you know that people should have some sort of "right to privacy" when REGISTERING a LICENSE to RENT a domain?

What's up with Budget taking my personal information when I rent a car? The fuck. They have no right to infringe on my right to privacy.

What's up with Budget taking my personal information when I rent a car? The fuck. They have no right to infringe on my right to privacy.
Is Budget required to post that information for all to see, in order to have a license to rent cars? I could have sworn it would be considered unethical, and possibly illegal, if they publicized all such information.

my argument in the past was that domains are 'leased' not 'owned'...... that was put down by the sex.com case. Apparently, even though you never truly 'own' a domain, it seems that you do. Beside the point. The fine print clearly states that you must submit your info. If someone has a problem with that, they are free to opt out of registering.

It doesn't hurt me when you swear, Amp. It just sometimes makes you look stupid.

As for the "fine print" argument. On many occasions, the fine print of a contract has been deemed illegal, and struck down. There are laws and standards governing what sorts of agreements you can enter into.

There is no reason to make the registration information for a non-commercial domain public. I mean, i don't really care about the subject. It doesn't effect me. But it shouldn't be required on personal websites. The registrar would need the info, of course. But there's no need for it to be public.
