I looked into this myself. The idea is, your hair cycles, e.g. it grows out of one follicle while another one hybernates and then, they switch. That's why you need to do more than one session.
If you have dark hair and light skin, which is quite normal in pubes, it shouldn't be a problem. The laser aims itself at the dark hair, that's why it's a problem for blondies.
The procedure costs a good bunch. I was looking to remove my pubes but rather to remove some facilal hair and I was quoted $400 per session.
