Club promotion.. How would you get alot of ppl to come..

Anyone have any experience in club promoting? We have access to an extremely nice venue.

Looking for sophisticated crowd that spends money on drinks.

its an expensive restaurant by day.. Eurpoean style trendy atmosphere. 500 capacity.

what kind of techniques would you use to promote..

specific ideas if you were running a club..

Radio.
Ads in weekly "alternative" newspaper.
Flyer handouts (know where your crowd hangs).

That's all the help you get for free

It's how creative you get with those that counts. Aside from them and word of mouth...there isn't much you can do that won't majorly eat into your profits. If you want more help with this, hire someone who's done it before.

I've done weekly parties of 500 and monthlies that brought in upwards of 5000. The key is just like it is here with porn...know your crowd. I would love to get back into the party business, but it's just tooooo time consuming...even compared to porn.

Those work out good if you can get decent people. We must fo ran though 40-50 people before we narrowed it down to the best 10-15 people we had promoting actually doing a good job.

Music first, create some extras (Go Go dancers, celebs, pornstars, models, flame throwers, clowns, whatever), pick a night you won't have much competition, like Thursday or Wednesday, advertise on the radio or entice the DJ to plug you, hand flyers out through the biggest local promoters who handle those things (they're out there). Those promoters with flyers hit the record stores, hip clothing companies, etc and have a route already established. Start your own newletter for local club promotion or buy someone else's, or get in it.

That's my take.

And price the door cheap, or give it free and take a piece of the bar. If you can.

By doing that you'll probably just piss a whole lot of people off. Pissed off people don't buy lots of drinks, or return.

Instead, try this... since you're going to be allowing people in free, take advantage of the "free" offer. Say things like "free for a limited time", "say the magic word to get in free", "free only this Thursday night, don't miss it", etc. By doing this, not only will people assume that they'll have to pay in the future, but they'll also be thinking "ahh sweet, Rob's Place is having a special tonight, get in free for saying 'I love porn'... let's go!"

go to other clubs and hand out flyers or give some dunce a vip card to do it for you, thats what we always did .
flyers on cars in parking lots of other clubs
book some bomb ass DJ's for opening weekend and find a resident with a decent following
radio advertising
ladies in free till 10 or midnight or something
1$ well specials
1$ domestic specials

well its funny about the scene here.

there was a very successful club that threw weeklies and had national talent every week. but then the cops and the commonwealth cracked down real hard on the drugs, diminishing the scene and crippling everyone who tried to recreate it.

so the scene pretty much died. as we are all older now and realize that the sophistication is whats up.

downtown norfolk, virginia is growing fast and right now im in a situation where i can try to learn the promotions biz before it becomes real big and learn the ropes..

a certain music production duo from this area that i wont mention by name are investing millions into this city in the near future to make this city grow as a major metro area. but you didnt hear that from me.

I might know a thing or two about that .. the cheapest and most effective form of advertising would be local ..right in you r own hood .. get a hold of a promoter (a guy/gal well like and known in the area) Print up about 6000 brochures with some good graphics and info .. distribute them in the area .. next I'd hit the local radio station, nitelife website for you area, and if you look hard enough you might even find a loacl message board for nite life in your town .. that should get the ball rolling ..

butthe best form of advertizing is still and always will be word of mouth ..

as long as the crowd is a music/dance orientated crowd.

basically nothing draws people like people!

if it's happening, the punters will want to be there, so it's very important to get it right from the very start. big opening party etc

The very type who would not attend a place on a flyer or from a radio advertisement. For most of them if anyone can get it, they do not want to, as nothing is worse than being an anyone. The harder you make it for people to get in the more people will want to. This also would mean free admission or even the word free is too tacky. If it doesnt cost more than it should, it isnt worth having.

Hire a small army of drop dead gorgeous people who have designer everything. Both women, and men. You will need to seed your party with these people.

Get in with the local newspapers, have the columnists start pre-buzz for you.

Target plenty of the trendy gay people. They will ussually attract the trendy sophisticated women you want.

Make it RSVP, or they must apply for membership. Deny plenty of people. Send out invites to the people you know that are "in" with your target demographic, give them a few to give to select friends.

If you do radio, just give out a few passes, like 5. Make it known that without a one they stand little to no chance of getting in.

well first off sex sells so you can figure that one out yourself ...but I had a roomate who worked at a bar and use to pull in $300 in tips nightly in a resort town...the owner has 4 bars around north america and they all make a shit load of cash...he doesn't advertise or promote only through word of mouth...now remember this is a resort town so how do you get word of mouth??? well he let the bartenders each have a bottle of booze and beers and coolers to give away...so think about it guys comes into the bar...feels like a schmuck cause everywhere he goes the average bar goer is a schmuck...the bartenders are super cool...guy orders a drink and the even if it is a beer...and the bartender gives him a free shot...well the guy suddenly feels special, first time at the bar and gets a free drink! doesn't happen to often...this guy will then drink all night spend more money in lieu of getting another free drink...it is like in Vegas they keep the loose slots close to the door, first time a winner and then the guy wants more...of course the next time this guy goes out he wants to go where he is treated like a king, brings all his buddies and so on....do the same with the girls too which is what most bars do but for the cost a bottle and a couple beers your bartender makes awesome tips and you empty this guys wallet everytime he comes...best word of mouth you could ever get...forget advertising let all the hot girls in free with a drink too and don't let them wait in line, the more people lined up and guys seeing girls go in the more they want to go in.
