Prisoner sues for $5m over basketball injury in jail

A New York prisoner is suing the city for $5 million for injuries suffered while he was playing basketball in jail.

Qiydaar Reddick, 21, says he hurt his knee while playing basketball at the Brooklyn House of Detention.

Reddick, who was jailed on a robbery charge, claims he was "lawfully playing basketball on the court" when he tripped on some loose bricks.

The New York Post says his lawyer, Paul Campson, has filed the complaint at Brooklyn Supreme Court.

"He was running and bricks popped up and he wiped out," said Campson, who added that Reddick may need surgery.

I might be a bit think here but if you are in prison you loose ALL rights.

He surely can't do a fucking thing, and why the fuck is he playing basketball when he should be locked in his cell with bread and water. Fucking easy life in Jail!

I like the way they do it in Phoenix AZ. the sheriff's office just puts a big barbed-wire fence around a bunch of tents in the desert. No TV, no gym, pink underwear and 2 day old baloney sandwichs. The sheriff is saving millions of tax dollars, and to the prisoners that complain, he just says......"hey, if you don't like being in our jail....don't come back!"

He gets re-elected by a landslide every time he comes up for re-election.

Yep..it's a jail, not a luxury resort.. I think that prisoners who are in jail should lose their rights, as they chose to commit crimes, they don't want to live within the social system, therefore they obviously don't need it. They shouldn't be allowed to sue, vote, or anything of the like.

Actually, now I moved to Miami, but Phoenix had a nice low crime rate. What with the fact that a lot of homowners have guns and carry permits, and a Sherriff (Joe Arapio), that doesn't mess around.....it's a very depressing place for felons to try to commit crimes in!

NEXT" arpio don't give a shit about anybody .. he just wants to be re elected
