    UniX Vs. NT

    Hi there...

    I was complaining about the speed of my site. My site is on Unix server, and it's a Virtual-Hosting.

    The company told me that I can decide if I want to stay on the UNIX one, or move to NT server - They say that the NT server is faster than the UNIX.

    They suggested that they will open an account on the NT one, while the site will still be hosten on the UNIX. Basiclly, I will have to choose between them, according to what I see better.

    I don't know if anything about NT execpt that I will not be able to use PHP (that's not a problem) and I will be able to use ASP.

    Is there are new things I need to know about it before I decide to move to a new server?

          Yea the reason they're asking you to move to NT is because they have a faster machine. I would ask them instead to move the account to a faster Unix box. Or just get a new host

              I give you 4 weeks before you post looking for a new host, I dont know if NT or unix or what the fuck is faster what I do know is you are being fed lines of bullshit and a host shouldnt have these issues.

                  i would find a new host..

                  there are too many factors that will determine the speed of your site, mainly the specs of the server and the load on the server. but on comparable servers i would bet any UNIX, even SYSVR4, will outperform NT.

                              Given equal hardware configurations...

                              Properly tuned NT CANNOT be faster than properly tuned *NIX based server.

                              The NT GUI Interface causes too much overhead to even compete with the *NIX based system.

                              IMO, *NIX based systems will beat NT in all of the following areas as well:

                              1) Scalability
                              2) Reliability
                              3) Securty
                              4) Remote Administration
                              5) Performance

                              Running high traffic adult sites on NT RARELY works out. I know of only a handful of high traffic adult sites that use NT based servers.

                              I'd guess that 95% of the adult web runs on Unix based servers. For all of the reasons I mentioned above.

                                  I suggest you go and look for a new host

                                  Check out KC's post, and draw your conclusions. A host that advises NT over UNIX because of speed.. no thanks

                                                              Yeah they are giving you a line of shit. The only really possible way that NT box is faster is if they are way over-selling the resources on the UNIX box (which is very likely) and you are the only one going to be on the NT box.

                                                              Also, NT can run PHP and Mysql and Perl and a number of other things, if they are saying it can't it is because they don't want to take the time to set it up properly.
                                                              SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
