    Byebyeads.com popups?

    I'm usually behind a hardware firewall at my router, then I have a software (PCcillin) firewall that protects my comps. But tonight i'm on my cable modem directly and i'm getting popups like mad, which are appearing as system messages.

    "From COMPUTER to UNSAFE user"

    "WANT TO STOP ANNOYING POPUPS? GO TO BYEBYEADS.COM

    DON'T FORGET THE NAME, TYPE IT INTO YOUR BROWSWER NOW"

    ***************OK********* <--- BUTTON

    I'm wondering if this is some type of IE exploit, etc. I'm curious because it only appeared now, that i'm not behind any firewalls.

          well I'm not sure what installs the stuff

          I think it's just an open port that allows to message you

          I had a program for that before, you type the message and pick the ip range and press send and it tries all IPs for you

          There's no profit in it though.

              Well its not MSN messenger, cuz I dont have that and have never installed it. But it does seem like an IP exploit. I used to use commands in computer labs to send messages with the same popup type context to my friends, just fucking around.

              Unfortunately I dont remember how I did it, and I thought it was a LAN only thing.... hmmm..

                  It's the Windows messenger which is built into the Windows operating syste. You can disable it in the administrative tools.

                              Yep, I just went to the spammer's site and saw that yes, its a MSN messenger exploit. haha, coulda saved lots of time. It must only work when i'm not behind my firewalls.

                              Very weird.

                                  Goto: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Right click on Messenger Choose Stop > Right Click Again Choose Properties > Click on the general tab > Startup Type Choose Disable. Done no more pop-ups
