                            The awards was unfortunately a good representation of what is popular music and that's all the MTV awards should be. I haven't listened to any of the albums that won awards more than once (well, maybe more than that in 50 Cents' case) but I am not going to come here and argue that 99% of the MTV viewers didn't agree with at least 2 of the winners.

                            Face it Amp, that is where the majority is headed. Stand on a corner in Times Square or Main street in Eagle County Colorodo and just listen to car stereos as they drive by. You will quickly see the light.

                                                                                                    If I'm misinformed, then the European media are misinformed on this issue.

                                                                                                    It's called the synergy effect. They own different parts of the music business and can make them work together.

I take your viewpoint as well although I still can tolerate Metallica even though they are money grabbing hahahahas. They still were one of the best bands ever so they deserve a bit of respect.

Before that I flicked over to see "chester bennington" from linkin park read out his script about how he listens to outkast when he's smoking blunts with his friends.

                                                                                                                                                                    There is so much good music around at the moment I find it hard to get the time to listen to it all. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean some people dont. MTV and pop music will always be there. You just need to not worry about it and listen to the good stuff. As everyone says its no like you are being forced to watch it.

                                                                                                                                                                        When they first got off the ground in the 80's not too many people thought their concept would even work.

                                                                                                                                                                        One of my partners back then was in the music business and had managed The Cars when they first put their group together. The industry opinion in the very beginning was who's going to watch song videos 24 / 7 and its going to cost a fortune to produce videos for every song each group thinks is going to be a hit.

                                                                                                                                                                        I was in a video editing studio and Marty Callner walks in to do some editing for a video for Aerosmith. Started talking to him and he saw the stuff we were working on for pay per call and he said you should run these spots on MTV, its the up and coming thing and the teens will call your stuff like crazy.

                                                                                                                                                                        So I took his advice.

                                                                                                                                                                        Those were the days. Only $800 for a 30 second national spot on MTV. The calls and ROI were off the charts.

Never once. easylunkhead claimed that. And I already said, if that's what some people like, fine. My whole complaint was based on, WHERE WAS THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY.

                                                                                                                                                                                What do you normally find in "rock" videos? A guy singing into the mic.

                                                                                                                                                                                What do you see in hiphop videos? Women half-naked dancing.

                                                                                                                                                                                Considering it's video awards and not music awards (like say, the Grammy's), it's no surprise to me that hiphop videos and performances dominated the show (although I didn't watch it, that seems to be what happend from what I'm reading here).

                                                                                                                                                                                I think the new generation of youth are interested in sex and image rather than substance. They're influenced by media but I think they've moved away from caring about what constitutes "real" or "good" music. They'll listen to whatever sounds good to them whether it's considered music or not (and Bach, Mozart, or Chopin, would disagree with our tastes of real music_.

                                                                                                                                                                                Not only that, but the rock acts of today hardly fill the vaccuum left from the great bands of the past. I haven't heard anything unique or appealing other than Tool or Korn in recent years. Everything else is generic.

                                                                                                                                                                                I'm not sure that I'd want to see great bands winning video awards anyway. It would invariably commercialize their appeal.
