I actually go search travel.yahoo.com first, then probaly ITA software planner second, they are usually even.

on the midwest & east coast use www.airtran.com, you can get some decent priced flights from there, thats what i always use.
from everywhere else i'd use www.cheaptickets.com, thats what i always used for my west coast & europe flights.
