My above response is triggered by the fact that everyday as I exit the freeway I give some spare money ($1-$5) to whatever transient is working the offramp that day...I've always been very unconditionally generous. But I got to thinking...a few bucks every day or so into a savings account for the next 16 years could give my daughter a jumpstart on tuition or books or one hell of a highschool graduation party.


So guess what...time for some tough love for those who'd rather sit and beg than work.

Either that or I'm gonna dress my baby up in her cutest outfit and put her on the offramp with a cardboard sign that says, "Help me get a decent education!"

It sucks that he's going to have to sell his house, but he's by no means down and out or in any sort of "true need".
Perhaps he should be thankful that he has a house to sell. Many folks here don't even have that much.

$5 every day into a savings account would indeed add up to a LOT by the time your daughter is ready to enter college.
That's $1,825.00 per year... your daughter is 2 so let's say she's got 15 years left before she graduates (I graduated when I was 17)...
That's $27,375.00 just from your savings alone, not including interest.
