this comes from David Lace Content newsletter:

They Hi-Jacked Our Domain Name! For those of you familiar with Acacia Research you will fully understand our new "Hating Acacia Sale" (LOL). And if you are not familiar with Acacia then be very thankful and enjoy the sale. We at Lace Studios just learned yesterday that the Acacia guys were actually able to place a hold on our domain name laceproductions.com virtually shutting down our content site for a few hours. They did this by serving papers to the registrar of this domain GODADDY.COM. According to GODADDY.COM's legal department they chose to "take down the site" and said "we have to wait until we hear from the courts regarding this domain." And we received no advance notice whatsoever from GODADDY regarding their decision. Of course this was really no big deal as we have multiple mirror sites. But shows the lengths that these guys will go to try to enforce this "patent" they claim to have.

I loathe Acacia and what they stand for with a passion but simply disliking them and not agreeing with them isn't going to make them go away and isn't going to help my business. That leaves either paying them or fighting them.

This bit confuses me... Godaddy is a registrar and if it decides to take your domain offline, my understanding is that it will STAY OFFLINE no matter how many mirrors you have. So I'm assuming that Godaddy only put David Lace's nameservers offline and that they were able to continue servicing their domain via secondary nameservers? Is that correct?

I know Charly. Sad too since David has some of the best content etc going. Don't know how much IMPAI could have helped that early in the game but ignoring it was silly. Hopefully he can join now and overturn that order.

Far-L ask around about David Lace's reputation. This statement is not a surprise, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

If GoDaddy took their nameservers down how is traffic getting to their mirror sites?

I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

David Lace is a fucking idiot. We bought some content from him and had an issue with a model whose lawyer contacted us claiming David did not have the rights to sell the images. David offered us no help. Buyer beware.

If that's what David Lace is trying to say, he is indeed a "dumbass" because anyone who has bookmarked the blocked Godaddy domain cannot buy from him (ie it *IS* a big deal).

But regardless of the silliness or lack thereof, I would like to know what the deal is with Godaddy as I use them for all of my domains and I know that many other GFY members use them too.

The IMPA was and is always available to help. They could've considered joining the defense group too. We cannot tell anybody what to do or how to run their business.
