Tonight I watched TNL or somthing its a religeous channel just to see what the religeous fuckheads are brewing and I actually got alot of insite on there efforts.

The show stressed that people must mobilise locally and make a voice that others hear.

I recall the grass roots movement for the tree huggers occured before the new religeous front the United States is now facing.

But at anyrate the Poll systems are being Hi-jacked by religeous zeolots. Classic example is CNN.

"The new CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll found 77 percent of the 1,009 Americans interviewed earlier this week disapproved of U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson's order to remove the monument."

    CNN

The problem is while the zeolots are organizing shit, everyday people like us are not countering the effort by taking there Local politics seriously.

The above survey for example states 77% of 1009 people. Them people were not chosen at random otherwise it would say so.

I am done with this thread there is no explaining this shit, the only thing I am thankful for is the fact that there are only a couple morons here that prolly listen to the fucken 700 Club.

Thats 50 for prolly one of GFY's most retarded religeous/political threads.

Yeah, thats what happened, Gallup called up SPECIFIC people of a SPECIFIC mindset for a poll.

Too much smog in your brain.

It does not bother me in one way or the other. I am simply pointing out the misconception some people have about the constitution.

There is not a mention of the "separation of church and state" anywhere in the constitution.

I am also pointing out the fact that the monument violated no law...and the courts have been legislating from the bench. Court precedent is not a law.

        An anecdote...
A lawyer was asked what constitutes law...and the lawyer answered...whatever the Judge says is law.

Congress should have put a stop to Courts legislating law...long ago...but the Courts would have intepretated any such law in there own way.

Most of the time. I'm not claiming to be perfect nor am I suggesting that human beings are.

I'm saying it's something to aspire to. That's all. Logically it makes a lot of sense.
I used to get high on life but then I built up a tolerance.

You have to admit it's a lot more concise and clear than the 10 Commandments and a lot more universal.

It's about a simple as it gets.

Every 4 years there is an opportunity to limit terms. People should use that if they really wanted to limit terms.

I don't trust people. ;-) I'm fine with Bush but I wouldn't want him to be president for 16 years even if a majority of the people want him to be. 16 straight years of only Democrats or Republicans is just too much for me.

Of course, I see your point. We're essentially trading some freedom (who to vote for) in exchange for limitations on one person having too much influence. We have a lot of trades-offs like this. I prefer the term-limits myself.

What bother's me is so many people beleive it is in the constitute and they will argue it tell they are blue in the face. And think because you speak out, you are some right wing bible thumper. It's just not in the constitute.

The United States of America is a secular country, and is becoming more so everyday. With people from around the world living here, you simply can't favor one religion over another at the federal government level. Seperation of Church and State is a good thing for everyone in the U.S.A. - even Christians.

The ecumanical movement and secularism are all good things. And really our only hope of ending thousands of years of religious wars.

That said, I think is is clear what the founding fathers intentions and wishes were in this matter, as one of the main forces driving immigration to America was religious persecution in other countries.

I have studied Chistianity and I believe it is correct in standard Christian doctrine to afford the same respect to others beliefs as you would have them afford you - "Do unto others..", etc. With that, I would expect all Christians to fully support seperation of Church and State to assure that everyone may practice their own belief systems in whatever way they see fit.

I would also ask my Christian friends to be mindful of the persecution inflicted upon early Christians in Rome due to a *lack of seperation of church and state*. Surely no moral man or woman would like to see such events repeated in modern times.

So according to everyone here, judges should be allowed to have giant statues of whatever religious denomination they want built in courthouses in the middle of the night all over the country?

Great. I can't wait to walk into a courthouse and be confronted with giant statues of Satan or Thor or Allah because that's what the judge felt like building.

Great. I can't wait to walk into a courthouse and be confronted with giant statues of Satan or Thor or Allah because that's what the judge felt like building.

The irony is verging on ridiculous!

And ignorance on this subject is not limited to those that think the words "separation of church and state" are in the constitution. Of equal - and perhaps more significant - ignorance are the parrots squaking out the standard right wing line who don't seem to understand a very fundamental fact about the Constitution - it says what the Supreme Court says it says.

And yes, the Supreme Court building has a statue of Moses on it. The statue of Moses has been there for a long time, is one of many statues that reflect the diverse sources from which our laws have evolved, and wasn't put there in the middle of the night by one individual who put it there with the specific intent of creating a controversy and challenging the supremacy of Federal Law.
