ive been using vonage for about 6 months now and my shitty internet is only 1mbit down and 128kbit up, and i have a streaming cam im running 24/7 that east 96k of it, and it sucks. i can hear fine but nobody can hear me when i talk. say i cut out a lot, even when i try turning off my webcam. im not sure what the deal is. but the theory is good because i have packed it with me on my trips abroad and been able to maintain the same phone number and service in any country as long as i had a router to plug into.

I dig Vonage, but if you ever have issues with your connection, you're fucked.
I tend to have to reset my ATA more than I would like to. And if you're uploading anything, you can pretty much count on not using the phone until you are done.

Still, great deal, and yes, it's good to have when you travel.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

                Vonage is not a "program".
Vonage is a "broadband" phone company, which connects high quality phone calls and dial tone via your DSL or cable Modem internet connection.

Vonage should not be confused with the software based programs, which are now considered past generation VoIP technology.

For those of us with good broadband connections, vonage supplies user with a Cisco ATA device, which simply plugs into an available port on your switch or router. A user supplier regular pots telephone plugs into one of tyhe 2 available telephone ports and on the Cisco ATA device.

As a webmaster, who make a above average amount of long distance, vonage was a gift from heaven. I have had vonage since early this year, and my previous high phone bills ($200-$500) have been reduced to less than $50.

With vonage another sweet feature is the ability to choose where your base number is (AREA CODE/CITY) located.

There is a online control panel where you can manage various included features like call forwarding, voice mail, call waiting, virtual numbers, call activity etc.

The person who reportied choppy calls while video streaming making vonage calls should login to his/her vonage control panel, and reduce the CALL QUALITY. by defasult vonage sends calls at 90k both directions.

P.S. you can also add VIRTUAL NUMBERS, for $5.00 per month. these numberes are your additional numbers in cities you select. Your callers in your virtual number cities can in essence call you as if it were a local call. vonage also has toll free numbers you can add to your service.

If anybody is thinking about vonage, hit me up on ICQ and i will send you a refferal link, which saves you $40 on your vonage service.

you can only point the virtual numbers to the vonage number, but you can point that to a land line... they also have toll free numbers now

I have had vonage for a while, and I almost cancelled it. because I had a few problems that I couldn't seem to resolve. My last ditch effort before tossing it was to get a new router. I had a linksys, and they said that linksys routers can act a little goofy with their system. So I grabbed a $50 netgear. Now it works perfectly. Really really sweet. So keep that in mind if you are planning to get it.....

if you opted for standard ups delivery, time to arrival is usually 5 to 6 days..

you can also call after ordering and get them to overnight. what ever you do...don't order without the $40 referral coupon. many people here on gfy board with vonage can send you one.
