Someone at my old trucking job got canned and told he had the rest of the day to work and then he took the keys to a truck and took off with it. ( And 10,000 lbs of booze inside... )

what I hate is when they fire you at the end of the work day. That happend to me once a long time ago, like an hour before closing time. Could have killed those mother fuckers.

I heard the opposite.

You're supposed to fire someone on Monday, so that way, they can get right back out there looking for a job on Tuesday. That way, they won't be sitting there at home upset.

Back in my days as a supervisor I was told to always fire people early in the week. That way they can get back out there looking or raking care of things instead of spending the weekend stewing about it all.

but if you fire them near end of week, they are thinking of what they will be doing near weekend. They will be thinking about going out to lake, drinking bbqing, etc. If you fire them at beginning of week the next day they will be thinking about work and money.

The latter sounds more depressing.

well, that crazy bastard that shot up place in Chicago today was fired 6months ago. So, I guess it doesn't matter when you fire someone.

It would interesting to see all the fatal shootings that took place and when guys were fired, but maybe it doesn't matter. Just too much "Office Space" movie, I guess

if you fire someone on a thursday isn't it like giving them a long weekend? Shouldn't they be HAPPY?

every management training course i have taken said to fire them on monday like samoan said.

because that way they can go on interviews all week long and not have time to think about how much they hate you.

well, if it takes several weeks to make the calls, and several weeks to set up the interviews, and several weeks to go on interviews...that is dreamy management-thinking, isn't it?

If you bring a gun to work, you don't have to worry about what day you get fired, you can clean house right there on the spot. At the very least, you should keep one in the trunk of your car.

I've always had someone else do firing. I hate doing that to people with a passion.

I had one incident in my 20's when I was VP of a company and we let this guy go and he had forgotten his sales leads behind after walking out ranting. Calls up the president of the company saying if we don't give him his leads book, we'll all pay. So the president of the company makes me go to see him to chill him out.

I show up and the dude pulls out a huge 44 magnum and points it a couple inches from my face. Luckily he liked me at work and knew I wasn't the one who had ordered his firing so he didn't kill me, but he said you tell that fucker if I don't get my leads he'll be looking at this barrel too.

The CEO later called some buddies of his that had connections to the Hells Angels and they went and paid a visit to this dude. Don't know what happened but we never heard from him again.
