10 employees can shut you down...

I just had a thought as to how this chargeback ratio thing is not even close to being as bad as it's going to be....

What do you think about this...?

10 adult webmaster employees/friends who hate another competing medium size program's webmaster (maybe for non affiliate payment or simple competition) could sign up to the site as a member... then they could wait a week and then all charge back...then... BAM! The webmaster gets flushed.

I wonder how many programs employee's are already doing this?

Seems like one big adult webmaster program with 10 employees each with 10 friends could shut most people down...?

    hmmmm

It must be easy to do chargebacks in the states.. Cause here in Canada with visa, it is an absolute nightmare, the whole process seems to take about 2 months.

I suppose it could happen, and maybe will, but it seems like an easy thing to get busted for.

I would not want to see the PR on that one

You have to have 100 chargebacks or more to be in the 1% ratio bracket...

What do you mean by that? If I have 50 signups and 4 chargebacks in a month it's ok? If so, my point is debunked...

Umm what about the post by Platinum Lantern that says his account was closed for $4k in sales and $72 in chargebacks? This would create a bigger problem for people with 3rd party processing than it would for those with their own merchant accounts.

He means it takes 100 chargebacks (in a month I think?) before visa even looks at your account.

If you get process 10 new sales & get 10 chargebacks in a month (from older sales, or even the new one)... your IPSP might want to know whats going on -- but Visa wont even notice you.

That's what I understand from talking to IPSP reps anyway.

Thats great if it's true !!

By the way - we called our bank to do a chargeback for content we never recived and the guy charged us 3 times for the same content LOL.

Anyway, we was sent a document to print everything down
and sign it. It has been maybe 2 years now and we have not recived the money yet !! So, It's pretty hard doing a chargeback in sweden as well.

but going back to the original point....

10 people each with 10 friends (100 credit cards in total)

would put a program over the 100 signup limit

they all charge back and 100% chrageback ratio.

                                Lets discuss this some more.

there should be some sort of online identification system for visa people to have digital signatures, so we can make them sign payment authorization forms in a nice secksy binding way

ive had to make a few chargebacks here in denmark. And its quite simple, not a phonecall, but just a form to fill out, and I had the money back in my account within a week or so. No questions asked.
One cb was $1200 - and still no questions from bank/visa.

I think that the real threat of CB is from the customers..

Yes it may happen from a few webmaster, but if they get caught it will be far worse on them than the guy dealing with visa. Remember that Visa will not have a problem going after the suspect for fraud!

The biggest issue is that Visa allows people to charge back over and over. There seems to be nothing done to a guy who purchases a membership to a porn site and then charges back, and then does it again.

If someone did it and it has been done before it is serious serious fraud and has bigtime Felony legal implications and if it could be roven as an organized attack add rackaterring not to mention the civil suit that would wipe out compleately the company who actually conspired to do that many chargebacks.
The lawyers and DA's would have a field day.

                                                          Exactly.

With a smaller company, this theory may hold, but if it's a large company that already does 100's of reccuring per day, a bunch of ppl charging back won't be as noticable

Yeah, and what's sad is that they even advertise it on TV showing you how simple it is. You aren't liable for ANY unauthorized internet purchases. Problem is that all you have to say is "I didn't authorize that" and no questions are asked even if you're lying. Many times they don't even cancel the account and re-issue a new card.. which is odd, since if I didn't authorize a charge, doesn't that mean my card is stolen?
