she has good right to be freaked - be nice to her, she's a human being like anyone else who was unknowling put into a life threatening situation. No different than waiting to find out if you have cancer or not.

Ask her if she has any sort of medical insurance that'll cover drug costs - Tell her that if caught early enough HIV can be controlled for years with drugs.

Also remind her that hundreds of people are working on a cure - if diagnosed and treated there is no reason to believe it'll be fatal within the next 10 years. But if positive she will have to go through a lifestyle change - sex is really out of the question cept with other positive people and ask her how she feels about that?

Also ask her if she had sex with anyone after the infected guy - what kind of sex she had with them (condom, anal, etc) and if she took steps to inform those people of the potential risk she unknowingly exposed them to.

positive or not, HUG HER. dont' be afraid to. You will not catch aids form a hug. there is a good chance she is feeling very alone right now and like noone will want to ever touch her again and if that's true that's just wrong.
