Stats from a known search engine have value. Particularly if you know the site, the type of traffic it attracts, how it stems words, etc. The keyword stats from jesus-search.com and smut-search.com are probably very different.

Interestingly Word Tracker doesn't say where they get their figures.

If you have no keyword list, word tracker is a decent place to start. You could also mine the ppc suggestion tools or the meta tags of other sites. Of course the best way is to get friendly with one (or more) of the major search engines.
