Willy Wonka is freaky and dark. When I was a kid there were parts of it that scared the crap out of me.
Dahl wrote lots of dark things and his family wouldn't agree to the remake unless Burton directed it. So, they must feel he will be true to the spirit.Comment

I never got that impression as a kid or as an adult watching it.
It felt more like a fantasy come true. Having your whole world made of candy. with a moral of the story being that bad and spoiled kids will be screwed and the poor hardworking kid shall be rewardedComment

Think about it though - you have one kid potentially burnded to death when she goes down the egg shoot, another put on the taffy rack and and stretched out, another made into fudge and another one having to be juiced by midgets. Now think of when the film came out...it was freaky for then.Comment

personally i am so sick of remakes...has everyone run out of ideas? how can you improve Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? its sacreligious. however if anyone should do it, it should be burton and depp, both have worked together many times and are great at what they do but still...movies are an art form, to a degree, shit action movies and such aren't but willy wonka is a classic. you wouldn't want Led Zepplin IV to be re-done would you?you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..Comment

hahah..I LOVE YOU! Willy Wonka was one of the first things we videoed off tv when we got our first VCR. My sister was addicted to the movie and would watch it, rewind it and watch it again. Every single time "Cheer Up Charlie" came on we would both yell 'boring' and fast forward.
