Plextor. For years best quality and service. If some device got broken, they pick it up and return it at your place. Their DVD burner is the fastest and cheapest. They have black front panels too.

I have Lite On... both DVD and CD burner in black and not had any problems with them at all. Great setup.

although i hate pretty much everything sony, their pc cd-rom drives are the fucking shit. they have the best dvd writer out there. the cd-rom and dvd-roms they make are fast, and most importantly, QUIET. i love my sony dvd-rom because of its silence. i know someone who's got their +\-R dvd, it's fucking pimp.

as far as just cd-writers go though, i've been using yamaha's for quite some time now, and am very pleased with them. i've currently got a 44x internal yamaha, it treats me well

Lite-On is good and cheap... so if it breaks it's no biggy

Plextor is very good and not as cheap... I have both, and I'm happy with both..

somthing to think about though is just getting a DVD burner.. I have a Cyndene el cheepo which it really a retagged Pionear A05 and it's pretty nice aswell.

I might jump on some Lite On drives, but I have been thinking DVD burner, but don't know how much I'd use one, but then again I'm sure that it'd come in handy. I see that NewEgg has a 4X DVD RW by NEC that sells for $159, maybe I'll jump on something like that. The only thing that I don't like is that the cd burning is slower than a normal burner.

I looked for Cyndene, but couldn't find anything on Ebay or NewEgg.

Haven't had any problems with my Sony 40x CD-RW.

About Pioneer - I have 2 x 16X DVD drives and one of them started working improperly. It has problems with reading files from any cds. I guess it's time to toss it out (out of warranty).
The other drive I have works perfectly fine.

Also, I found that Panasonic (Matsushita) is very solid as well. Had a 4x8x burner since 1997 and it still works

I don't know if they produce new drives, but you may want to check up on that.

Oh, and Plextor are the best - but twice the price of a different brand drive.
