Deep sunday night question : Do you think humanity will exist in 50 years.

Last night I had an intense conversation with a friend.

Ok, look how the technology of weapons evolved in the last 50 years. Now imagine this. We get even more powerful weapons in the next 50 years, more powerful than nuclear weapons. In 50 years, nuclear technology will be *old* technology. But nuclear weapons are like the ultimate doomsday weapon right now and it's like fucking impossible to have that technology and the ressources. But how long do you think it will take until every terrorist organization on the planet is capable of using that technology (even if it takes 20-30 years) it's impossible to stop that. I think we are fucked, no matter what.

That won't happen.

What will happen is mass death by genetically engineered viruses or bacteria. That technology is potentially more dangerous than anything that goes "boom", and will become widely available in the next 50 years.

Nah ... It's still hard to produce nuclear weapons . And H bomb is like 100 time more powerfull than conventional nuclear bomb . The nuclear bomb is just the detonator for the H bomb ... So it's already better . But with the polution and everything, I dunno

BUT AT ONE TIME IN HISTORY, those old computers ran the largest companies in the world.

However in the case of nukes, it doesn't take a terrorist faction or an insane dictator. Very shortly, all it will take is a hacker.

Hackers will have complete power as more and more things become automated and humans are less involved.

unfortunately I wish I could belive it's a 'could' thing but I fear it's more likely to end up being a 'will' thing...

nobody has to create nuclear weapons...the ones sold when ussr went down are enough to destroy the planet a couple of times. Skopje was the blackmarket of nuclear weapons and not only the past decade. Officially few countries posses such power, unofficially things are different.

Is nuclear that extremely advanced technology? Not really. Not anymore. More than half century has passed from the 1st big boom. The knowledge is everywhere now. The holders know what these weapons can cause, but this doesn't mean it will make them not to use them.

Let's hope that al quada will never posses such weapons because i'm sure they'll make use of them.
