August 21st Meeting in So Cal regarding .xxx domains

    Let your voice be heard...

    *****************
    FREE SPEECH COALITION

IMPORTANT GENERAL MEETING ON APPROVAL OF ENDORSEMENT OF .XXX DOMAIN!

    Dear Member,
This is to let you know well in advance of a very importantGeneral Meeting on August 21, 2003, at 5:30 p.m., at the Warner Marriott Hotel,

    11111 Oxnard St.,
    Woodland Hills, CA 91300000.

    The topic will be:
Should FSC Change Its Current Position Against a .xxx Internet Domain to a Position Favoring Such a Domain?

The Pros and Cons will be presented followed by a Q&A period. Then we will ask the membership to vote up or down for support.

This is a very important issue because we need to know our members' views so that we can lobby ICANN and the federal government in support of, or opposition to, such an Internet Top Domain.

Your choice will effect FSC's direction for a number of years to come so it is really important that you attend so that we are sure we are representing the will of the majority of our members.

Please be there and encourage all FSC members you know to do the same.

    Best regards,

    Bill Lyon
    Executive Director
    FREE SPEECH COALITION

I doubt they feel that threatened. But, you never know. It is possible that years in the future people will look to .xxx domains first for type-ins but I doubt it.

Even if it is introduced, I bet it will be like all the other .net, .org, and .info domains... Taken my domainists, etc.

This is the dumbest idea in the world.. why would anyone want to make filtering 'porn' websites that much easier for all sys admins involved?

Every Fortune 100,000 company is going to filter '.xxx' at their incoming net connection and a SIGNIFICANT portion of our business will go away.

Set up a '.kids' domain and assfuck any stupid fucking jerk who puts inappropriate material there.

I think .xxx could become queite popular, at least in the US...
if people hear that there's a 1st porn domain, they will type it in !

but wait, why should I be against it...
                  perhaps I will get sex.xxx or teens.xxx

It is a government sponsored initiative they are trying to put in place for exactly that reason....

So they can easily filter out popular adult destinations

It should not be constitutional to force adult content sites onto some specific prefix, especially ones that already exist today.

It's an obvious attempt to devalue and block content that the government doesn't agree with.

There are many sites with "adult" content who are expressing their free speech rights that do not want to be lumped together with RussianRape.xxx by the government.

Once you let the government decide what domain you can or can't use, then why wouldn't they also decide what domains inside of .xxx can or can't exist? Why should they allow teenporn.xxx, it might attract people who are looking for underage content.

This is an anti-free speech idea and one that the adult industry should not support.

Not under some of the proposals. Under some laws they have talked about, no "offensive" or "adult" content would be allowed on .com.

The whole point of .kids.us was to get rid of the need for .xxx.

Why is the Free Speech Coalition even considering changing their position after .us.kids was already introduced to protect kids?

In the .kids.us domain space, they don't allow any adult content. Why would they need a .xxx also?

it would be no different from the garbage on

                                .tv. .info .biz,

                                lol

the solution is to just build better filter,

and require adult sites to have a code or i dentifier on every page,

so that people who set there parental settings can keep there kids off the porn,

as for companies filtering and stoping there employees from looking at porn,

they are already doing that ,

its the same at my brothers high school, the school is conected to the school board, which filters all the pages they see,

my brother told me that him and his frinds, try to go on comedy sites and like rotten.com which all those kids talk about,

and its all blocked from the school board,

my point being. .xxx is just a another shit . whatever,

and keeping porn out of schoold, offices, and home computers used by childrend,

is already being done, adn its becomming big business,

For those who aren't doing it already, you might want to consider voluntarily registering your site with the ICRA to allow parents to block your site from their kids:

The government was, at one point, talking about taking away any of your .com domain if you have any adult or offensive content on them. Who decides if content is offensive? The government!

That is right, if you legally bought xxx.com or porn.com or thehun.com, they would steal the domain from you and force you to use the .xxx version of the domain.

If anyone thinks it's a good idea to support this theft, please give me your good .com domains instead.

That is right, if you legally bought xxx.com or porn.com or thehun.com, they would steal the domain from you and force you to use the .xxx version of the domain.

If anyone thinks it's a good idea to support this theft, please give me your good .com domains instead.

this .xxx has been stale for over 3-4 years now..
Why would anyone with half a sense of how the net infrastructure works ever want this?

Hmm.. I feel like losing india, china, the arab world, entire states & corporations to filters, and that is just one the 1st day...

if the aclu fought it b4, it doesn't add up to me that any coalition let alone a free speech one would reverse that trend.
This sums up how i feel about a .xxx nicely..

Who's behind the initiative in the adult biz, I'm curious to know so i can see who wants to profit from fucking our biz over to make some quick bucks on domain registrations

That could be a real good thing for the business. Would make life way easier to parents, make business more structured . I don'T know if that can work but I don't think it's a bad idea.

                                                          Be objective.

As a human, the .xxx thing is a normal step to the future of internet.

XXX shops are clearly indicated as XXX shops. It is not normal that you can find porn on hotpics.com or whatever.

Yes, it would be BAD for US, pornographers, but good for most peolpe outside this business.

The internet will be regulated one day or another. You can fight it, but you will not win the war. I expect that within 10 years, all porn sites will be on .xxx or .sex and people will have to get a Adult ID to enter any of the .xxx domains.

BTW, there's no reason to spam by email if people can't reach the .xxx site --

It's the ultimate solution for the BS on the internet. I honestly think it is... and if it ever happens, I will make 10x less cash... but I still can be objective about it.
