The Theory for providing a "Physical" product for a subscription has been pretty thought out you can be quite certain in war room scenerio's withing the larger adult internet companies.
Here is the theory.
One a member subscribes and recieves a free product, they recieve it in the mail.
That set's you up to fight a charge back (More on that later).
Simply he subscriber recieves the product that sets you on the grounds to fight chargebacks via the acknowledgment of a recieved physical property via mail. The unknown in the factor is simply will the subscriber wear what he recieved in the mail to promote your service?
Odd's are possibly from time to time. But the real question is will the subscriber wear it enough to create a positive effect on your branding?
The expense of sending a product to the subscriber + the "Item" (T-shirt)+ the man power to manage the apparatus of sending product = A few bucks.
The idea to fight the possible charge back is moot. Ya do not want to fight charge backs simply put. Unfortunatly at this day and age its it costly and cumbersome to battle someone over 40 or even 30 bucks or what have you for a subscription.
Simply its not worth fighting chargebacks through the current systems of Credit card fraud.
Thats the unfortunate thing about the mess man. The environment to fight charge backs and fraud are at an incredibly primitive level to this day and age. Infact the best thing we can do these days is simply deny the transaction as most everyone prefer's daily.
Still the theory is not proven to be a success in a given subscription site model nor most any other adult Internet model unless of course there is indeed a little more at stake such as brand names. Take Hustler, Vivid, Penthouse, Playboy or even the Jenna Jameson branding that we see today. In otherwards most internet business's do not have the merchandising to recoup on loss's versus positive branding effects.
Simply ask is it worth a branding effort? Is it worth the effort to fight chargebacks?
The theory is still unproven until you actually look at the case of Jenna Jameson whom started some branding build up, howver I would like to note the problems of Distribution with adult oriented products. Its a harbinger... Your gonna need friends in otherwards.
Sell them software they can download immediately...like the a browser which comes with porn access to your site...eliminates the "delivery" problem and provides a physical good..hence no 5967....
We're working with a browser builder that stores content on a removeable device (hence keeping the porn off your laptop, etc.)...so it has value and is not porn...
