i read the great gatsby, amoung a couple others of those several years ago. i don't remember it very well, but from what i do remember from it, it seems it was rather fucked up and rather melancholy. maybe i was too young

I can't read more than one book at a time.. although, I usually read a book at once. Depending on the size of course, I didn't read lord of the rings without sleep ;)

Great novel.

I prefer non-fiction these days though. Real life is always more fascinating than fiction.

Currently reading "American Terrorist".

I can't seem to stick with just one book at a time, I read a chapter of one book then pick up another and another and eventually I finish one and bring another into the rotation.

Right now I've got these books:

- Media Control, by Noam Chomsky

- The Essays of Warren Buffett

- How the Mind Works, by Steven Pinker

- Myths to Live by, by Joseph Campbell

- Duck Egg Blue, by Derrick Neill

I post on GFY so that when people ask me what I do,
I can tell them that I work with the mentally retarded.

Security Analysis- Cottle, Murray, Graham (value investor's bible)

American Gods - Neil Gaiman (just started, interesting so far. Fiction piece on a small town in the midwest that becomes a battleground for mythic gods of past. So far it reminds me of the Stand by S King.)

I read teh first and last on this list. Just read Harry Potter's latest and now a history of Julius Ceasar(pretty dry so far).

I was sitting here the other day, having just finished a book, I wanted to REREAD something I had read before but maybe hadnt soaked in enough.

I decided to reread Brooks, Flesh and Machines and the complete Hp Lovecraft works.

I was even going to ask you if you had any books to recommend further on this. ;)

the comedian bill hicks used to do a routine about how he was in a waffle house in nashville tennessee reading a book and the waitress came up to him and asked:

"what you reading for?"

and he replied:

"I've been asked 'what am I reading' before, but never 'what am I reading for'. I guess I'm reading so I never become a fucking waffle waitress."

I grew up in Nashville, so this bit had particular relevance to me.

I'm reading motivational books lately. Two really good ones are:
