well, it isn't just france..it is the UK too and a lot of the rest of Western Europe. It is a big deal because it doesn't get this hot ...infact until this week it had never been over 100 in UK in all the time records have been kept. Now, imagine California pretty much noone having AC because it was never really needed before. Now you think people wouldn't find it a bit difficult?Comment

you aren't kidding...one of my friends drove to the coast this weekend and some guy was selling hand held fans that you can get in the pound shop (the UK version of the dollar shop) for one pound (of course) and was selling them for five pounds each and he had a line down the block.
The other one I heard was the people that work in the pharmacy across the road from us. They had their fan in their shop break on the hottest day this week. So, the closed the shop because it was too hot to work and went driving around trying to find a fan. They ended up having to drive to Wales - we live in London..like someone having to drive from Philly to Boston to find store that had a simple fan. They called all sorts of stores when they couldn't find any in the London area and ended up having to pay over the phone for the one in Wales and driving to pick it up.Comment
