Paxil and Xanax not working? Dude, you must have some SERIOUS anxiety. I take Ativan but if Xanax ain't cuttin' it Ativan would probably be too weak for you.

Depends what kind. Alcohol is fine with SSRI's.. paxil, prozac etc. Drinking alcohol on MAOI's could kill you. With SSRI's, the only problem is that the alcohol renders the med temporarily useless. For people on 'em for anxiety disorders, rebound panic attacks the day after a night of drinking are common.
More than one person on paxil, myself included, has found that it increases their alcohol tolerance.
for a while when i got mad stressed out my doc perscribed a drug called effexor thats kinda new school - its not an MAOI or an SSRI and it worked pretty good
theres also remeron which causes you to go to sleep the first few times u take it but then it balances out

So tell me, how depressed were you before you went on paxil? What are the symptoms?
I just feel lazy, thought maybe anti-depressants would motivate me more in life. Right now I use caffiene for a kick, but I hate the jitters. My body doesn't like too much caffiene.
His experience is the same as mine. When your brain chemistry has been fixed up by paxil, you can drink like a frigging fish. Not only is the alcohol more pleasurable, but you don't get hangovers.

I've had panic disorder since I was 16. It only got bad enough to do something about recently, and I've been on paxil for 3mos. It works very well for me. I started feeling better about week 2 and it pretty much erased any vestiges of my PD by week 3 and 4.
The only downside, as noted above, is that it makes drinking alot way too easy.
Delayed orgasm is an almost universal side effect, but unless you consider being able to fuck for hours on end a bad thing, its tolerable.
I would just make sure you really need it before starting. SOme doc's will write scripts for SSRI's like they're fucking candy for anyone who says they've felt a little down or lazy lately. They are powerful drugs and if you don't really have an imbalance in your brain that needs to be fixed, you're gonna get all the side effects with very little benefit.

Yeah, this shit seems pretty good. My kind of drug, heh heh....
Day 25: A pattern is emerging. Since starting on Paxil, I've been drinking like a fish. For some reason, vitamin P combines incredibly well with alcohol. It's more fun to drink than it was before. I want to be drunk every night. I don't get hung over now, and I remain pretty lucid even when sloshed.

I took the tests on paxil.com, and I did pretty good. According to them, I don't need it.
But...when you took it, did you feel more motivated? That is my biggest problem, motivation. I bought motivation books, but I'll be damned if I could get motivated enough to read them.

Yeah, I feel much more motivated and energetic. A kind of nervous energy.. mild tremors even.. is really common when starting on paxil. After the first week or two it simmers down but still keeps you perky.
You can always give it a shot for a month or two then stop if you don't like it or it doesn't do anything for ya. Just taper down rather than stopping abruptly. Paxil has a short half life and if you stop it quickly you get 'the zaps' the dude in the article described for a few days.

My buddy took effexor - he told me it turned him into a psycho and he wanted to start knocking people off. Said he started to drive like a nut, not stopping when other idiots would pull out, or pedestrians would walk out into the road...
crazy shit. Glad to hear it works for SOMEONE

I've been taking effexor for panic, anxiety, and depression for about 3 years. That stuff saved my life. I do still have panic episodes, but they're MUCH less severe than they were, and I also have xanax to take for panic attacks as they happen.
My only beef about effexor is that I don't think I'll ever be able to get off it, even if I had to. The withdrawl syndrome for this stuff is incredible -- I can tell when I miss even ONE dose because I get dizzy, nauseated, and get the "zaps." The zaps are like a fucking brain shiver -- it feels like you turned your head really fast, but your brain stayed in place, the world shivers in your vision, you feel sick and floaty, and there's this NOISE inside your head that sounds like someone crumpling the cellophane wrapper off a pack of cigarettes next to your ear.
I had to go w/out effexor for three days one time, due to a mix-up on my prescription, and at the end of the three days I was a fucking mess, ended up in the ER.
If you start taking it, just be sure that you're prepared to deal with the possibility of going through the withdrawl if and when you need to get off it...
