Plano is where I grew up, pretty much where I live now, dallas border.Originally posted by DTK
I belive it...my dad used to live in plano. Quality newer house, good size (2000+ square feet), swimming pool, nice quiet neighborhood and the houses were selling in the 220s.
Obviously a couple steps up from what you are referring to Brad, but the same spread would run 500k-750k in the bay area. Texas is a fine value
Funny to see those houses in CA for $1mil+ that are shit holes. Here for that price, you get a mansion in a private gated area in the best part of town.Sig too big

living in Louisiana is like living in hell ... mosquitoes, sauna, heat, rains, hurricanes ...
I've bought a $105,000 4 BR house in Slidell, LA ($15,000 downpayment, $650/month mortgage) .. I left to California one year later ... and I'm happily living in a 1BR apartment for $950/month rentComment

US count with bedrooms and bath house..huh. Where I live we say 5 rooms and kitchen..Originally posted by Herb Kornfield
I have a 3 bedroom / 2 bath house with a yard on the side, front and back. 2 spaces out back for my trucks in montgomery county PA.
20 minutes outside center city philly / 90 minutes from NYC and 1 hour+ from Atlantic city.
97k... We went FHA. Put down $5,000 and pay $960 a month for 2000 sq ft.
We have had to perform alot of upgrades and work on the place, but, I did a lot myself. I had no idea how to do this when we bought this, I just read some, asked lots of questions to friends and gave it a shot.
Its totally worth it when I can look around and this is MINE.

How come it's so cheap in Florida... isn't it supposed to be one of the most popular vacation destinations in US... as well as the upscale retirement spot. So prices should be high... weird.SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. $100k is not a whole lot of cash.
Mexico is cheap to live in, but if you want to live nice, you cant get a home for under $150k.
That is what it runs in Mexico and the US cities I have been in.
I am shopping around too.
Looking for a second home in the US...

Actually Las Vegas is a little more expensive now thanks to lower rates. A small house in a nicer neighborhood will cost you probably $180-200K.
I think it is a little cheaper in Phoenix.Comment

Ahh, I didn't realize.. Still, compared to the sf bay area it's cheap.. $300k in vegas gets you a palace compared to what $600k gets you in the bay.Originally posted by tonkagunner

No you don't. You can do a no-document mortgage and pay a little higher interest rate. With rates as low as they are now, that's still a good deal. Plus, when I bought my last house, I only had to show 2 years of self employed income tax returns to get a conventional mortgage.Originally posted by Marcus
nevermind, I talked to an agent today and I need to be self employed for 3 years before I could get a mortgage, so it'll be a while.
Find another broker.
