    My guide to prefetch cleaning
    -------------------------------------
    first make a file in your XP system drive root named "prefetch.bat" and enter this into the file (replace C: with the drive letter you have XP installed on)

    md C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\pf_tmp\
    move C:\windows\prefetch\CMD*.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\pf_tmp\
    move C:\windows\prefetch\USER*.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\pf_tmp\
    move C:\windows\prefetch\NTOS*.pf C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\pf_tmp\
    del C:\windows\prefetch\*.pf /q
    move C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\pf_tmp\*.* C:\windows\prefetch\
    rd C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\pf_tmp\

    From the Start menu, select "Run:
    Type in "gpedit.msc"

    In the window that appears, under the "computer configuration" heading, expand "windows settings"

    under "windows settings", select "Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)"

    double click "shutdown" from the right window

    click "add"

    click browse and locate your "prefetch.bat" file

    click "open"

    click "OK"

    click apply or OK to finalize this process.

    Now you are done. every time you shut down or restart your computer, it will run your shutdown script to delete the prefetch files and give you a faster startup.

    Amen

      This thing makes adobe start MUCH faster (for reading PDF files)

      "Adobe Reader SpeedUp is a simple application that was created to help make the loading time of Adobe's Acrobat/Reader software bearable for everyday use. AR SpeedUp only needs to be used once (a process taking only a few seconds) and then your 'Reader will be transformed forever. There are also some tweaking options available. "w00t!", as the young kids say."

      It works.

          But why use freeware tools when the full versions are available on the internet? Unless of course you're running a legit operation (which is VERY rare in the internet biz ).
          Give me Anti-Vir over norton/McAfee any day.

          I have used them all And the freeware runs faster and is more "minimalistic" plus they dont load as many DLLS and are not as hellbent on staying on your computer even after you try to uninstall them...

          Ever have a norton uninstall go south?
          ITs like a demon has possesed your PC.

                  wanting to try it, but is it recommended to tweak your PC? So far mine has been in great condition and afraid it might crash after trying them out the fact that there's no assurance it works in everyone's workstation.

                          To easily see current connections and their addresses, make a textfile named GetIP.cmd and insert this into it:
                          @echo.
                          @netstat -n
                          @netstat
                          @echo.
                          @pause

                                    IMO killing services really will not do much to improve your performance. ON most machines I'll just make sure the windows messanger does not load, but unless youre REALLY tight on recources Its really not worth messing around with the services. The gain isnt worth the trouble on todays systems.
