That really sucks for him, but the way I understand it, you are forced to give up your constutional rights upon entering any of the armed forces effective for you entire length of time there.

After being in the U.S. Military for 8 years, yes, you do lose most of your constitutional rights while enlisted...although nobody in charge in the military would say you had. You can get charged for destruction of govt. property for getting a sunburn (you are govt. property). It happened to a friend of mine that got a bad sunburn while out water ski-ing.
As far as this case goes, he was using a navy issued laptop, which is in effect property of the Canadian govt. So, even if it was his personal internet account...it's still military gear used.

You don't loose your freedoms in the military. You just have to adjust to more restrictions. As far as what he was doing, using a government computer for unofficial business is a no-no and everyone in the military knows that. Imagine if those citizens against porn groups found out about that before he admitted it. How would that make the US government look in the eyes of the world, all because of something a guy in the Navy did. Look what happened with Clinton. The only difference is that he was protected. To punish him for what happened would make the government look even worse.Comment
