The GloBill "I told you so" thread...

    Serves you all right.

On the other hand, I didn't think they would go out of biz. Must suck when they are the only processor you can use, huh?

Yes! Where are all the people who were defending them on this very board?

That's the bad thing about it. Seems for a few Canadians it was almost a last resort and you can't blame them for at least trying with Globill. However, for others who used them....

I wonder why some of the people screaming about Acacia and refusing to pay, donating to IMPA and trying to fight back... are laughing at those who used Globill as their way of telling VISA

I considered using Globill myself. I'm obviously glad that I didn't, but the decision was based on the fact that I had llimited startup funds that I thought might best be used for content or other things instead of paying VISA's extortion fee and because I felt that I wanted a way to avoid paying that stupid fee because I didn't feel it was right. Had it been more reasonable (like maybe a $99 processing fee) then I would have been fine with paying it, but $750 is ridiculous because there is no way that administration fees for any of the companies involved comes anywhere near this amount. Not to mention the outrageous fees that they are extorting from banks/IPSP's/webmasters in the form of those stupid chargeback fines when it's their fault chargebacks are so high anyway for allowing any schmuck whose wife finds the CC bill to claim "he didn't do it".

I think Acacia must be fought, but I also think people should be doing more than they are to stop VISA, too. After all, if VISA does it, Mastercard could do it, too. And if Acacia, VISA and possibly MC are all extorting from us... where are we going to get the money to pay off the next extortionist who comes along claiming to have patents on the idea of nude photography (major sarcasm there)?

                      yeah.
Why anyone would put their "business" at risk over $750 is beyond me. Oh, right, they weren't making money anyways.

Ah yes, the herd is getting thinned again....good times ahead for those who are patient. Na zdrowie!!

Hence the 'for a few' Some really are too broke to do so but then I wont go into my views on starting a paysite when that skint...

Mind you, even with the money the solutions are a major pain in the ass for them. But then, that's the risk they took. Didn't need a high IQ to see what would eventually happen. Unfortunately if VISA say jump and you don't you will eventually be very, very fucked.

Ok, I'll play. When I chose Globill for 2 sites last year the $750 was the farthest thing from my mind.

It was based on personal recommendations, period.

For the past year they have been good as gold, always paying on time.

Now obviously I am fucked. I haven't done the math yet, but certainly tens of thousands of dollars. I somehow doubt that the guys in the Carribean are going to pay me, especially when those fucks are now bouncing checks ALREADY sent.

So, no big deal. CCBill will have me up by tomorrow, and I'll send all my recurring customers a sweetheart deal via email (yep, I saved them all) to come back. (It will take 10 7-10 days to get Visa approval, but I expect to do 90% of normal processing during then. Almost all my customers have a mastercard)

In the end <yawn> its a little bump in the road, except as a constant reminder of just how dishonest some people can be.

Rot in hell, globill, this has nothing to do with your banking problem. You could have warned us a week ago and kept up the payment schedule as usual, but then again, you are shitheads and loosers.

If it was one of the compliant ones, it would be absurd.
Globill was playing games with Visa. Visa won. The writing was on the table many months ago. People had a chance to back out, do it right. They didn't, and now they are fucked.

Ya know....I said it all when Glo-bill....started telling people they had a solution that didn't involve a US presence..that didn't involve money....

                                              This business is not free...

Glo-bill was never a favourite of mine; but, when they offered an out that wasn't....and webmasters flocked on over....thinking they were going to be David to VISA's Goliath?

What is there to say...when the big guys couldn't do it...and, don't you think they would have?

And, the big guys said they couldn't.....and, I believed them...

Of course it is a drag to have this happen. The $750 is totally irrelevent to the cost of doing business for anyone serious. I don't really like the registration aspect personally. There is nothing wrong with being gay, but the Nazis made homosexuals register and wear pink triangles before they said, "what they hey let's gas 'em." There is nothing wrong with being Jewish, but the Nazis made Jews register and wear yellow stars before they said, "what they hey let's gas 'em." It sounds over-the-top, but it was over-the-top and surprising the first time.

That said, I think Globill could have given webmasters the opportunity to retrieve their data before taking everything down. I do regular backups, so I lost very little, but this is not the case for everyone.

Of course I am really upset about my rebills and my dough, but I have pretty unique sites that my members enjoy, so I expect that most folks will rejoin. I will probably give some sort of sweet deal to them, same as TheSaint. I've been getting phone calls and emails from a bunch of decent processors, but I'm going to go with ccbill for now and I think that will be good for my affiliate program as folks such as spotbrokers who were uncomfortable with globill will be comfortable with ccbill.

But like Labret said, it is absurd to celebrate the death of a processor. News bulletin: This is a high risk business and there is always the possibility that the well will run dry for everyone, so no use crying and no sense celebrating.

Business has been booming for some time now.We are working on a new solution for out of US merchants that are lower volume. The problem is that the offshore banks really want higher volume merchants.

There's nothing absurd about celebrating a company trying to screw Visa over going out of business. What's absurd is they stayed in business for so long and misled webmasters for so long. Do you believe they just found out they would be shut down yesterday?

What's absurd is they stayed in business for so long and misled webmasters for so long. Do you believe they just found out they would be shut down yesterday?

I think you are totally correct on that point. I just also think there are risks whichever way a webmaster goes on a lot of different decisions. In this business, I think it is really important to maintain a cushion because it is high risk. Globill took good care of me for a long time. The Visa registration data could have been used to impose new taxes or fees or worse, but it wasn't. At least, not yet. I wish Globill had been right that they could get around the rules on that, but it is not like this is the biggest shock either. They did do the decent thing about getting current member data back online, so there is a reasonable chance they may end up paying in October.

However, it is a bit of a process and expense to get the merchant account setup. However, once that is done, you will gain an incredible amount of control and will own your data including the card #s. We all know today what that is worth. You will surely save at least 5-7% in processing fees.

All of it starts with the fucking surfers calling in chargebacks after they get their membership and download all the porn they want and then don't want to pay for the porn site.

Or, does it start with the porn site webmaster that rips off the customers, pissing them off to the point of getting chargebacks?
