Yup - we just bought 900 acres in Costa Rica next to a beach. As well as other stuff, we will be developing a community for webmasters starting next year (decent comms blah). Sure makes a difference when you can actually work with others with similar interests and have photographers and associated facilities within a community... will keep you posted!there's a couple of webmasters in costarica, a guy from GFY in brazil -- i think TDF might have family in Belize -- i hear that is a cool place because you can speak english... and I have some friends from Peru and Nicaragua -- so pretty much I'm just going to wait it out for a while... if there was some kind of technology community down there i'd be interested in that. They have some technology parks down there that are in like tax free zones and shit like that -- I think I'd feel more comfortable moving into a place like that where there's already a community going to work from...
And yea.. no taxes!

K! Will update as things progress! We only just did the land deal, so will get some pics shot next. We have a few webmasters and photographers/videographers already moving here - but hell, we gotta construct stuff first!!wow thats sweet def keep us posted, imagine a whole community of webmasters living in paradise
That don't start till next year.
Yea.. it is "paradise" - the beach is in a bay with no damned tourists - just dolphins and some humpback whales visiting. Very first time I saw this plot (I'm impressed by simple shit!).. we went to a beach bar for a drink - anything would do, so the barman climbs up a tree and gets a coconut and cuts the head off and stuffs a double vodka and straw inside - first time I ever saw "bar stock" growing on the trees!!
I could never describe this place to anyone.. you gotta see it. Without exception all folks we showed it to already were more than awed - they all want to move there asap!XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

Yea.. you been there so you know stuff. San Pedro is on east of San Jose.. there are a few webmasters there. But ya gotta get out of the Central Valley/San Jose area and see the "real CR". Jaco is a nice beach area!

One of our guys (photographer) is setting up a hot air balloon thing early next year. Apart from shooting porn, he wants to be able to fly over the rainforest canopy during his spare time *g* But that has developed into a business already - he's done some deals with people like Discovery Channel type producers who want to lower the balloon onto the canopy and spend time filming the wildlife.
San Pedro is really San Jose.. tis just a district of San Jose. It is OK to work in, but I would not like to live there permanently. But.. you got all San Jose has to offer!

Hi quiet! Yea, been working on this project for almost three years now. We did the usual searching of other places/countries and ended up chosing Costa Rica.pictures? pricing? and other details?
this sounds great. if this is really going to happen, i'd love to hear more
Reasons are basic stuff like... sound and stable govt, a geographically based tax system where you only pay taxes when they are earned from within Costa Rica (net stuff is not regarded as earning within the country).
The other factor about CR is you can go in any direction and the country is different - it has about 8 micro climates. I can visit "Switzerland" within a 30 minute drive
Other reason is there sure ain't levels of "control" that exist in other western countries - they are strong on "freedoms". I have only ever found the law to be more than helpful - they even get their sleeves up and help if you get stuck in a vehicle!
We bought this land cos it is basically even better than the average CR land and in a "paradise" location. We start building early next year and reckon by late next year we will have finished a phase. (This is a big project.. got stuff like an eco lodge and other shit to get together.)
I can't even get a price of much at this stage - tis too early! But will be shooting some pics of the land and area shortly! About 150 acres is "primary forest" and we would like to preserve this for the benefit of the community. It has three species of monkeys, McCaws, Tucans and... I understand from the biologist guy, something like over 140 species of bird life. There are also ocelots and jaguars (but they ain't a problem!!!)
In the immediate area, we have a palm lined beach in a bay, a range of sports activities like golf, scuba diving, quad, wind surfing, sport fishing, snorkeling, delta flying and horseback riding. There are plenty horse trails on this plot!!
Think it may be better to get a domain up for this!! But I'll certainly keep you posted!!
