                                                  Their business model, which uses a small print notice (barely noticeable in the TV informercials) that you're not buying a GGW video/DVD but are actually subscribing to monthly copies of their offerings has resulted in numerous consumer complaints to the FTC, though I don't know of any investigations of them by that agency. Main thrust of it is that a lot of buyers feel they were trapped, especially when a lot of them experianced difficulty in opting out. There are some that claim they finally had to cancel their credit card to stop the GGW charges.

                                                  For those of us that work in that aspect of the industry (I have for nearly ten years now), their marketing strategy was viewed with alarm at first that was soon justified. Everyone felt it was overly aggresssive and would adversely affect everyone else. Sure enough, not only have the girls that attend Mardi Gras and spring break functions gotten more camera shy but our video sales are down because of them. The event tape consumer is more wary now, fearing another fine print trap. And those videos that GGW push so hard to so many are, frankly, not that good.

                                                  Also, as prostock pointed out, their recent stupidity in Panama City Beach reflects badly on everyone in the industry. And that was pure and simple stupidity; everything that happened there was after the Bay County sheriff had publically warned them not to come down there to shoot. So they not only chose to ignore his warnings, they proceded to roll tape while they told a juvenile to claim to be over 18 for the camera, offer her money for a sex act and have drugs involved as well. Twenty seven felony charges they're facing, the last I heard, including violation of the RICO Act (though a judge did allow him to get his impounded jet back).

                                                  But the absolutely worse thing about them is now having a dozen or more people during an event shoot yelling in your face - "ARE YOU WITH GIRLS GONE WILD!?!" For that, they'll never be forgiven by the rest of us...

                                                                          He was doing what is known in the industry as "back room scenes". A lot of companies that do event videos include them because, well because they're lazy fucks (they're a lot easier than hassling the crowds for action shots!) and they want to spice up their offerings with something a bit more hardcore than the action you'll find at public events.

                                                                          There's even a standard "story line" used to transition to the back room (which might well be a motel room back home, for all that). It goes along the line of striking up a conversation with a gal that just flashed who decides those big beads of yours are worth a "private show" back at "her room".

                                                                          These are completely fictional accounts, usually using their own talent or one from another company (through Mardi Gras, I've watched some producers actually trade talent they've brought along for an hour to do these scenes) but sometimes an actual event participant will be talked into it.

                                                                          Without exception, every story I've heard of event producers getting into trouble has involved back room scenes. I don't use them because of that but I feel they are questionable filler material. I've always been more concerned with documenting the event as accurately as possible and these scenes aren't any of that.

                                                                                                                                                  The head of a company that produces the "Girls Gone Wild" videos was
                                                                                                                                                  arrested on racketeering and drug charges after parents complained to
                                                                                                                                                  police he told underage girls to say on camera that they were 18,
                                                                                                                                                  police said Thursday.

                                                                                                                                                  Search warrants on five locations and a private Gulfstream jet turned
                                                                                                                                                  up videotapes to corroborate the stories of five girls who said they
                                                                                                                                                  stripped and acted out scenes on camera although producers knew they
                                                                                                                                                  were underage, police said.

                                                                                                                                                  Joe Francis, chief executive officer of Mantra Entertainment, was
                                                                                                                                                  arrested outside of his condominium Wednesday evening. Three other
                                                                                                                                                  employees were also arrested.

                                                                                                                                                  Francis, 30, and Mark Schmitz, 26, were charged with prostitution and
                                                                                                                                                  sexual exploitation. Francis was also charged with drug trafficking.
                                                                                                                                                  The other two employees were charged with drug possession.

                                                                                                                                                  Mantra Entertainment spokesman Bill Horn said they deny all charges.

                                                                                                                                                  Police said they seized a 2002 Ferrari, electronic equipment, waiver
                                                                                                                                                  documents and a safe containing original footage of young women baring
                                                                                                                                                  forbidden flesh.

                                                                                                                                                  Panama City Beach is the nation's leading spring break destination,
                                                                                                                                                  attracting up to 400,000 college and high school students in March and
                                                                                                                                                  April.

                                                                                                                                                  Four 17-year-old girls and a 16-year-old came across a "Girls Gone
                                                                                                                                                  Wild" van Monday evening and were asked to go to a motel room with a
                                                                                                                                                  video crew to act out nude scenes in front of the camera, police said.
                                                                                                                                                  Two of them did, and were paid $100 for their performances, police
                                                                                                                                                  said.

                                                                                                                                                  "One of the 17-year-old girls came clean to her mother, and they
                                                                                                                                                  called us," said Bay County sheriff's spokeswoman Ruth Sasser.

                                                                                                                                                  Police said they found video to confirm that Francis told the
                                                                                                                                                  16-year-old to say she was 18 when he filmed her baring her breasts on
                                                                                                                                                  video.

                                                                                                                                                  All four men were still in custody Thursday evening in the Bay County
                                                                                                                                                  Jail in Panama City, officials said.

                                                                                                                                                  Area officials started feuding with the video company earlier this
                                                                                                                                                  year when a "Girls Gone Wild" crew came to town during spring break.

                                                                                                                                                  Mayor Lee Sullivan and local law enforcement officials threatened to
                                                                                                                                                  arrest anyone violating a public nudity ordinance as well as those who
                                                                                                                                                  encouraged such lawbreaking.

                                                                                                                                                  The producers went to court, asking a federal judge to declare that
                                                                                                                                                  certain activity associated with the filming would not be
                                                                                                                                                  automatically illegal and seeking a temporary restraining order
                                                                                                                                                  preventing authorities from making or threatening arrests.

                                                                                                                                                  They dropped the restraining order request March 12 after getting a
                                                                                                                                                  written promise police would not interfere with their constitutional
                                                                                                                                                  rights.

                                                                                                                                                                      There's even some speculation that this could've been a sting or setup ("Hey, Deputy JimBob, you think that wild cousin of yours would be up to some fun and games with these jokers when they come back down?") but that doesn't excuse GGW's behavior.

                                                                                                                                                                      Oh well, I've vented enough for one day. But this will probably take a while to wind it's way through the courts and generate more bad publicity for everyone in the event coverage business along rhe way. Might even get some of the "Video Voyeur Law" advocates to start broadening their definition of "illegal" uses of a camera.

I think it was a Spring Break one and a New Orleans Mardi Gras tape. The spring break one was ok, although monotonous. They got some of the girls to do girl-girl stuff, though. ;) The mardi gras one made me uncomfortable. There were girls flashing that didn't LOOK of age by a long shot, and some looked like they were with their mothers! That's just weird, if you ask me. There were a couple 'back scenes' but not a lot, but yeah, they looked rather suspect. The one scene that totally turned me off the genre was with a girl that they kept asking to flash in Mardi Gras. She said, "Ok, but no touching." You could tell she was quite afraid of gettin gmauled. They held out money or beads or whatever, and she flashed. the SECOND her skin was bared, about 8 hands showed up and started grabbing her all over. She was convinced to do this a few more times, but to no better result, even twiht the camera guy asking the people to stop grabbing her. Ugh.
