I bought a emachines for $400..
athlon xp 2400+
128mb ddr pc2100
48x cdrw
xp home

ended up frying the cpu, now running on 1.3GHz athlon xp.
upgraded to 392mb ddr. threw in a 64meg vid card...running 2k now and it runs basicly flawless.
