I think people in this industry get jaded and stop thinking like a surfer. When you're around porn every day it needs to get harder and harder in order to keep your interests.
But many surfers aren't like that. They like to look at naked, attractive girls.
I'm not saying there's not a lot of them that love hardcore... but there are many that prefer softcore solo girl spreading.Comment

and as far as the Hustler comparison...they only have a 500,000 print circulation also....(for Hustler proper) the other publications that Flyntt owns, and his video, online, etc ... help to strengthen his dynasty..... a good old chapter 11 will save the mansion! If you look at what Larry Flynt has done over the course of the last four years you will see he has actually grown substantially.
With the recent acquisiton of VCa, Distribution for Vivid, the retail that keeps growing every year, and teaming up with Harry Mohney of Deja Vu to franchise Hustler clubs, and the booming success of the Hustler Video line.......

Here's my Penthouse story:
Years ago a guy would follow me around Manhattan praising my cartoons and writing. At the time he was a newbie writer for Marvel Comics.
This dude nagged me for years and sang my praises.
Then during the 90s the same dude used some of my toons to help start Penthouse Comics which in it's hey day was selling like 5 million copies at over $5. Very revolutionary. Yet of course when I went to visit on a request visit I was given the cold shoulder. I knew something was wrong and no sooner said than done this guy's staff started fighting with him and leaving and calling me up to tell me what a jerk he was.
Time went on and lo and behold I'm in the store buying a newspaper and this same dude's name appears in the headlines as a publisher for Penthouse who jumped off the Marriott Hotel in midtown Manhattan!
I was shocked cause the dude weighed over 400 lbs and somehow mysteriously climed over a big ass railing at the top of a 40+ story building and did thousands of dollars in damage as his body tore through an elevator and glass structure.
The fur really flew then and mystery still surrounds it.
One thing about Penthouse that was great was OMNI Magazine. Guccione should at least be proud that that magazine introduced great viewpoints on science, religion, politics that other magazines were too pussy to cover.

100% correct! Early 80's I dealt with Penthouse owners and even then it was evident there was a lacking in management.Penthouse has shown zero business savvy since the mid-80s.
Follies ranged from opening casinos and having legislation limit these premises to "daytime restaurants" to mismanagement of mail order operations.
