My point was that pharmaceutical companies do not want marijuana legalized because it would take money out of there pocket. If a cancer patient had the choice of smoking weed legally at a much cheaper maybe even free cost (if they grow there own) or paying for expensive anti-nausea drugs..the pharm companies will lose money.
As for politicians...it's a lot different admitting past mistakes and actually advocating legalization. One may still get you elected...the other is a platform issue that is the equivalent to political death.
