I come from a long line of "legalizers". Grew up in in Hippyville (Eugene, Oregon). There are a million reasons why they will never legalize (to keep the thread somewhat contained I'll only speak on MaryJane) marijuana. If I went off on all the others I would probably have the longest thread ever recorded on a BBS lol.
1. Pharmaceutical companies. My fiancee works for them...have a little inside info. Marijuana DOES have legitimate medicinal purposes for some diseases, they have done there own tests and know it for a fact. Why would they want you to be able to grow your own or buy cheap meds/weed, when they can charge you an arm and a leg for your only "legal" relief that they produce. They are one of the most powerful lobbies in DC. They will never let THEIR politicians (not ours, none of them are really OURS) allow this to happen. Politics is big business not constitution.
2. No politician will ever have the balls to be the one to introduce such a thing. Being anti-drug, which is a joke cuz they push more drugs on society that any dope dealer, is one of the easiest ways to get votes from the sheep (aka the majority of America), and one of the quickest ways for your opponent to attack you and kill your chances of winning.
These are only 2 of about 100 reasons why legalization, even though logically it should be a no-brainer, will never happen.
I could write a dissertation on the legalization of recreational drugs...pros, cons, benefits to society, the aftermath, etc. but I will do you all a favor and not post it here lol.
Our war on drugs is a pathetic, PURPOSEFUL waste of time. Many benefit from the way it is and will do anything to keep it that way. And, that means politicians, pharmaceutical companies, drug dealers (you think they want to be taken out of the equation?), etc.
The only people that should matter are the people! We should be in control of what we want for our country. But, as everyone knows...that's just not how it works.
My biggest pet peeve. They won't let cancer and AIDS patients greatly improve their quality of life with medicinal marijuana and then prescribe them Demoral (an opiate derivitive).
Omigod...I could go on for days on this. It really fires me up and has since I was a kid. Like all, I hate hypocrisy, shady politicians, wasteful gov't spending, greedy corporations that trade people's pain for money....Ahhh God Bless America.
