I think it's not a far-fetched idea to think that bin Laden had dreams of being a modern day Saladdin, rescuing not only the Iraqis from an oppressive secular regime, but through this enabling a theoretical move into Saudi Arabia where I am sure he would've been welcomed with open arms by the muslim masses and thus overthrow the current regime and hold a global monopoly over oil resources, establish the pan-arab state promised by the Brits and dissolve the state of Israel. Clearly the west did not favor this outcome and neither did the Saudi royals. I am sure the Israelis would respond to any of this with a healthy salvo of nuclear greetings. It is, unfortunately, not too late for this scenario to unfold..
