Every wonder why very few places outside the US (with all it's long, straight roads) bother selling Vettes? Only the Z06 (put the "C06" down to dodgy typing skills) is worth bothering with, and you won't get one of those for $30k.

Drive a Vette. Hard. Then drive an Evo or a WRX. I have. The Vette doesn't stand a chance.

Then find out what "handling" means ("Handling" is not the same as "cornering", and sustained lateral g is more dependant on tyre size than handling ability) before accusing me of not knowing what I'm talking about, you'll sound less stupid.
Im glad you just proved my point. See. I Have driven a vette hard. I drive one hard everyday. Theres no way on this earth that an evo or a wrx even compares to the vette. Put the three of them on ANY paved road track and tell them to race. Put the SHITTIEST driver in the vette. The vette, lets make it a c5, will handle better, corner better, have a higher top speed, and will out perform. Win. EVERYTIME.

Whatever you think your saying about lateral g is completely False. Tire size plays a role, but Its ALL about how the car handles. If tire size is the biggest part of "sustained lateral g" then slap some 11" wide rims on your precious evo, and wrap them with 315 pirelli tires. Lets see you pull a g now! YOU STILL CANT! Handling has EVERYTHING to do with pulling "G's" in a turn.

Before you get your panties in a bunch (the trash talking just adds to the flavor of the fight, nothing personal), ill show you your error. Your confusing the Viper with the corvette. The vipers are known for BAD handling (compared to the vette). The viper will outrun the vette in a straight line, but the road has to turn somewhere. And that my friend is where the vette is most famous. So before you come back with a response. Make damn sure that your talking about a corvette here.

This is fun! Yes, I'm talking about Corvettes, but I'll make it clear that I'm NOT talking about the Z06, which is an excellent car. And I agree with you about the Viper, although I haven't driven one so I'm only going by what I read in the motoring press.

But there is no way, NO WAY that a C5 is better than a WRX or Evo in anything other than a straight line (this is something we're not likely to ever agree on by the looks of things though ). Personal experience, and EVERYTHING I have ever read or seen about Vettes, confirms that they handle terribly compared to the WRX, Evo or just about any other "performance" car.

With reference to handling and track times, Road And Track magazine recently did a feature on the worlds best handling cars:

        http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....ber=1&preview=

Look at the car in fourth place - it's an Evo VII (not the newer and better Evo VIII which is on sale in the US). Look at the car in fifth place - it's a Z06. Thats the old Evo beating a new Vette in a handling test (they didn't test the WRX). The guy who did the driving for the times and statistics was a guy you may have heard of called Bryan Herta, who is fairly well known for being able to drive a bit.

Before the Z06, Vettes were crap unless they were going in a straight line. Just about every motoring journalist outside of the USA thinks so and says so. Most of the motoring journalists inside the USA are too scared of losing advertisers to give a bad review...

Incidentally, have a look at the R&T article and check out the Lotus Elise. Only 122bhp, a slightly lower skidpan g than the Z06 (by 0.01 g!), yet through the slalom it's the fastest car R&T have ever tested.

Now THAT'S a car that handles well, and a 200hp version is coming to the USA

One positive benefit is merging to the interstate road before getting hit from behind

I once drove a 89 Mazada 323, and it used to scare me shitless trying to merge with on coming traffic with cars doing 80+ miles comming from behind

I am jealous, cars are so cheap over there in the US, a lancer evo costs 55k euro ($60k) over here in Holland and an M3 with some cool goodies 90k Euro

Honestly the ones who can't afford it will always scream "oh they have something to prove", or "they need to prove something".

                  Fucking fun.

In the UK, Vauxhall (GM) do a really nice relatively cheap sports car i'm not sure if it's available over there, 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds and looks the part (well i like it anyway), although a 2.0litre engine is a little on the small size for the US i would guess. Brand new they cost about £25k - around US$38k - but cars are very expensive in the UK and maybe it would be cheaper over there. http://www.monorep.co.uk/VX220.htm

A used stock twin turbo supra you can easily get for under 30k. Stock is about 320hp and you will do 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. You can easily upgrade to over 400hp for under 1k. If you want more horsepower you can upgrade from there and upgrades are very reasonable. I have a supra and I love it.
