Anxiety

Any of you have serious anxiety problems? Like, you are on medication for it?

Im about to make an appointment with the doc to discuss this. I think I got a lot of anxiety, way too much. Wondering what types of medication they put people on for this, how it makes em feel, etc.

I have terrible anxiety-life altering anxiety-try to avoid valium and xanax until you try the non addicvtive things first

all i know of is diazepam thinks its just valium

used for ppl when they are scared to fly and stuff like that.

probably best to talk to doctor though

Very true (say, where in the Northwest you located?)

Everyone has anxiety..it's part of the human condition..it keeps us on our toes and makes us do things like NOT (edit!) playing chicken with another car down a one way street.

But for many, sometimes the anxiety is more than the body can handle.

I'm no doc so I'm not even going to try to give you any advice other than SEE YOUR DOC for sure!

And, you might take note of the MANY "man I'm drunk right now" topics there have been posted on this board.

Booze for many is their medication of choice. Bet many of them are dealing with serious anxiety problems and don't even know it.

Just glad that you are aware of it and are taking steps to deal with it.

wow nice link, thanks. Reading into it and I hear some symptoms, and Im pretty surprised to hear that I have had some associated with panic attacks - at least I think. Try to stay away from meds, they only mask the problem.

I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder, I've tried all kinds of drugs and the best cure is self meditation and learning to control it.

Make sure your doctor checks your blood work before he calls it panic disorder.

I found out this year that untreated asmtha can cause aniexty.

Anyway, the best treatment for aniexty is an excerise program and to avoid caffeine.

Xanax is short term of two weeks.. Be weary of a doctor that prescribes more than 2 weeks of it..

Asthma tightens your chest and neck muscles and can cause your heart to race when you are exercising. If you are having difficulty breathing, it can make you anxious..

The best way I've found to conquer anxiety (especially panic attacks) is to tell yourself that what you are feeling is excitement and NOT fear. The chemical reaction in the brain is exactly the same whether you are having fun on a rollercoaster (excitement) or in a situation of real fear, your brain doesnt know the difference, its all how you interpret and react to it.

Up until 10 years ago I had panic attacks every once in a while in certain situations then one day out of the blue one started while at home that literally lasted 3 days. I should have went to the doctor but I wasnt even aware that there were meds for it. I seriously thought it was never going to go away, then out of desperation I convinced myself that I enjoyed the feeling, that it was the same feeling as being on a rollercoaster and it immediately stopped. Have not had any attacks since, and if I start to get anxious at all I smile and think 'right on, this is fun' and it immediately goes away. I know it sounds crazy but it is very effective.
