How can you make a hard drive bootable?

Currently ive got all the boot info on HD A (master). The OS is located on HD B. I want to make HD C bootable, and be able to load up hte OS on HD B.

Basically, i want to replace HD A with HD C, with all boot info intact so i can load up my OS on HD B.

How can i transfer the data from A to C? I dont need to transfer any other files or whatever else is on A, just the boot info that is located on there...

Currently, A is master, B is slave. I want to make C master, and remove A completely

anyone know how i can do this?

You have to edit some files....to just make your hdd bootable
go in dos and type sys x: where x is the drive letter of the disk
          you want.

I deleted my comand.com or a virus did it once. I just installed dos and it fixed it.

Not sure if you can find the files on another machine... it's called command.com though

Try using your boot disk and boot with cd-rom support.
If your cd is recognizable, try windows setup from your cd.

Get a good boot disk here first: (Do not know if it will work with xp)

There's an undocumented /mbr switch to the fdisk command that will write the 512byte Master Boot Record to an already partitioned disk.

Judging from your message though, don't fuck with it, you'll probably get it wrong and loose your data.

well, i found a very crude way to do it but its awful

i put the boot.ini on a floppy, along with ntldr and ntdetect.com

but without the floppy in the drive, the os menu wont show and i cant load my os (even though the exact files that are in the floppy are located on both my drives)

anyone know how i can boot up my pc without the disk?
