LOL: The Canadian government is, officially, a drug dealer.

    Toking gesture

Canada's government is to sell marijuana to those legally entitled to smoke it, but only in reluctant compliance with a court ruling. Anne McIlroy explains

    Monday July 14, 2003

The Canadian government is, officially, a drug dealer. Starting this week, it will sell marijuana to more than 550 Canadians who have the legal right to smoke the drug because of medical conditions such as arthritis or Aids.
The move comes six weeks after Canada angered the US by moving ahead with plans to decriminalise the possession of small amounts of marijuana.

Now they just need to give out the medical exemption easier to people that need it.

Youve never had your mother wither away from cancer have you? Rotting from the inside, sick from Chemotherapy.

My girlfriends grandmother is teminally ill right now dying from stomach cancer. Not saying she wants marijuana, but there are natural things that ail human sickness, pot being one of them. Its not just about DRUGS, its about DAILY comfort when ill.

She just had chemo that made her very sick, its eating her from the inside, she has no appetite and its horrible.

Again, I ask, have you ever watched a family member die from cancer?

It may just be pot to you, but its appetite, and fredom from the stomach sickness that follow with CHEMO.

Chemotherapy makes people sick. At least the pot lets them eat something.

I will always say this, until you watch a family member die from an incurable disease, and all they want is a little freedom, it would do you some good to look up info on it, and how it DOES help those who are in need of such medication.

There really is no argument with people on this, if you havent watched it, then youll never know.

Until then, keep posting an opinion.

The people it is being prescribed for here are people who otherwise would be on multiple daily doses of morphine. People would prefer marijuana to morphine in a lot of cases.

Actually marijuana can help many painful ailments such as glaucoma as well..... If you consider that your brain HAS receptors for THC, marijuana has been with the human culture for THOUSANDS of years as a medicinal agent and more. Hell, they found pot seeds in the fires of cavemen. Pot isn't bad.. No more bad than tobacco or alcohol with are legal and FAR more damaging drugs than pot could EVER be. Pot isn't even physically addicitive.. Psychologically yes, physically no. And for those who tell me I'm full of shit.. do some research. Psychological addiction can be powerful, but ANYTHING, video games, etc are psychologically addictive.. even washing your hands can be if you have an addictive personality.

For all the good it's going to do people, I'm surprised that people are still so firmly against it. I've seen more perscribed and over the counter drugs do more damage than I've ever seen pot do.

There's plenty of documentation of the historical use of marijuana for medical treatment -- and I simply don't think that it's the place of law enforcement to determine medical treatment.

As LadyMischief points out -- marijuana's been used to treat all kinds of human ailments: glaucoma, asthma, arthritis, all kinds of digestive disorders, and in countering the negative side effects of cancer and HIV treatments.

I spent 4 days with a house guest who was on morphine following a surgical procedure. I've never seen anyone as whacked out or confused in my life. He has absolutely no recollection of those days.

Fletch XXX....I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I wish my aunt had used something that would have helped ease her pain a little

There is a BIG difference between decriminlization and legalization.

Shit, it's basically DECRIMINALIZED here in California.

The punishment is similar to what Canada.

I can get caught with an ounce and just get a 100$ fine. No different than what Canada wants.

                                      For those interested though:

Thinking decriminalizing wouldnt save you people tax dollars youd be surprised.

Most people are arrested simply for POSSESSIOn, not trafficking, or selling to kids, or running over people in drive thru-s etc...

'60,000 individuals are behind bars for marijuana offenses at a cost to taxpayers of $1.2 billion per year.
REFERENCE: Marijuana Arrests and Incarceration in the United States. 1999. The Federation of American Scientists' Drug Policy Analysis Bulletin.

Taxpayers annually spend between $7.5 billion and $10 billion arresting and prosecuting individuals for marijuana violations. Almost 90 percent of these arrests are for marijuana possession only. '

'The state of California saved nearly $1 billion dollars from 1976 to 1985 by decriminalizing the personal possession of one ounce of marijuana, according to a study of the state justice department budget.
REFERENCE: M. Aldrich and T. Mikuriya. 1988. Savings in California marijuana law enforcement costs attributable to the Moscone Act of 1976. Journal of Psychoactive Drugs 20: 75-81.'

'New Mexico's 2001 state-commissioned Drug Policy Advisory Group determined that marijuana decriminalization "will result in greater availability of resources to respond to more serious crimes without any increased risks to public safety."

'Almost 5 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana since 1992. That's more than the entire populations of Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington DC and Wyoming combined.'

Huh? The government is selling it. They aren't saying, "Hey drug dealers, go at it!".
