New York City is where I live.

Work - all my offline biz associates are here, LA, Miami & London. I like NY best.

24 Hours - I'm a night owl. I'm going to meet a friend for a quick drink at 3am. I love it!

Fast - You can't beat the energy here. People here are highly motivated and you can feel it in the air.

The Best - Of everything. Restaurants, bars, culture, etc.
When I settle down and get married (or old) I won't need # 2 so I might move to LA or Miami. The only thing I don't have that I miss are beach views and ocean breezes. I have to settle for my little view of the East river.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

i haven't noticed much smog in toronto yet. when it gets really hot there's a bit, but not like some people told me. i was expecting it to be a lot worse.

plus it's real cheap to live here so my money goes a LOT further - bigger home cheap - cheap entertainment - better standard of living with the funds I have
This dog, is dog, a dog, good dog, way dog, to dog, keep dog, an dog, idiot dog, busy dog, for dog, 20 dog, seconds dog!
sorry... this is a fascinating thread.... (to me anyway).... I dig hearing the reasons people choose (or don't choose in some cases) where they live....
but I must abandon you for the BBQ grill and beer at this point....

Started out as Family (1). Then businesses (2). For years I had 'grass is greener' syndorme but then it turned into: 'this aint bad at all' ... a definate 4 seasons and very few laws, hell even beastiality is legal here. (4)
In fact, we used to have a few sheep fuckers down the road, i'm sure of it.

I am one of those few people that love LA. I lived for 8 years in San Diego and loved it as well! It was an awesome place to live. But here in LA is great too! The weather, always somethihg going on, beautiful people. Right now I am way happy here!
You San Diego people.... fill me in here.... I've been to SD maybe.... oh, 12 times? And I either missed the good stuff, or didn't know where to go.... been to Oceanside, and Escondido an alot of the industrial areas...
where is the hot spot there? (I may want to visit)
I born in Colorado and that is still where I live. It is very nice here but I seriously need to live on the ocean or at least near it. Hopefully someday that will be possible. Mainly just saving so someday I can move to the ocean. I have a ton of friends here so I guess that also keeps me here.

I love Florida because it is tropical, wealthly lifestyle, beautiful, just the right balance of population - not too much, but enough to keep things exciting, everything possible to see and do, being near the ocean, everyone is relaxed and chilled out, friendly, top restaurants and a variety of all kinds of food, great prices, lots of Net businesses and tech companies here, no state taxes, no traffic jams, and its sunny.
Oh how could I forget, some of the most beautiful women on the planet to top it off.
1) Lived in the burbs of Atlanta for 25 years and it got too crowded
2) I like not having to worry about crime
3) Fresh air and water
4) beautiful scenery
5) ZERO traffic jams
6) It's still close enough to Atlanta (1.5 hours) where if I need shopping, good restaurants, airport, etc. I can get them
7) It's far enough away but still close to my family.
Eventually I want to buy a few hundred acres out west in the REAL middle of no where. I have no visable neighbors now and I love it - but I want even MORE seclusion.
B-A-N-C-R-O-F-T Ontario Canada. It's backwoods, backwards, but beautiful, and it's awesome for the kids.... I'd like to move to Toronto or someplace when they're older, but in the meantime this is a safe place for them to live their younger years, and it's close to the family.
Poland - Been stuck here for some time waiting for the Polish police and the prosecution service to make a descision on taking SunnyDollars to court for hacking my stats pages at ccbill - And for cheating me out of 2 domains.
Now the (sort of Polish fbi?) have taken things over and I am told things are looking good my end.
Hopefully will move back to the Uk soon, or maybe Spain, for a change.

oceanside and escondido suck...
pacific beach, la jolla, mission bay, downtown, little italy... all nice places.
it's all of the above for me. my entire family is here in pittsburgh, along with al my friends, and my day job. i kinda like this city because it's not real big like new york, but it's also not just some tiny little hick town. and PA has some of the nicest scenery i've ever seen.
I Live in WA because my hubby's family is here..even though i'm not very fond of them and avoid them at all costs...I do have great means of escape and do so as often as I can
I do love the state I am in and love the fact I have snow access all year round and can drive to the beach or the mountains all within a few hours..snowboarding 11 months out of the year is only a couple of hours away..I'm in heaven....I am also surrounded by some really incredible states as well...Oregon, Idaho, Montana..and Cali is not too far away..and I have Canada to visit right above me...can't complain to much..no one would listen

Mississauga is AWESOME ... provided you have a car, and you don't need to travel to the city during morning or evening rush hour ... Mississauga's bus system SUCKS DONKEY COCKS, and you can actually watch the meter increase in the taxis ... it is mad !!
Mississauga is damn expensive .. but the quality of living is very good ... I was at Kennedy and Eglinton for 3 years, and then moved to ErinMills and Thomas for a year ... both areas were upper middle class dual income.
An interesting fact : Mississauga is one of the few cities anywhere that operates with their financial books IN THE BLACK !!
The mayor is a feisty little 300 year old woman too !!
san diego is best weather but too expensive, and the state of california sucks. If you want to pay $1,000 a month for a 600 square foot apt 10 miles from the beach, sd is the place. And pay high state income tax, high dmv fees, high gasoline, food.
Ever notice that pretty much everything added to the Constitution after the original was a mistake.

1. Family.
2. Money (i.e. job)
3. Destitute / broke / can't escape.
4. You love it.
did I miss any? And what's your reason?
very simple-after a lifetime on NY winters, THE WEATHER
I live in Georgia and moved here from England to start a new life - I was a widow and met and fell in love with an American who I met in an internet widow support group.

Where are you in GA? There are tons of us pornographers running around here!
Cool! I'm in Ellijay and so is Wig from achdebit.com, Dokk from netsurprise.com is in Flowery Branch and Tony from Nationalnet.com has a cabin in Cherry Log!
very interesting stuff guys.... also I can see how an initial reason for being somewhere, like say for a specific school, can eventually turn into other reasons, like you grow to love it over time. I had gone to Phoenix for a school back in '85 and I still love Phoenix to this day, even though I'll never live there again.
My reasons for living on Maui are all the obvious of course... I love island life, temperate tropical even climate year round, love the ocean and everything that goes with it.... the atmosphere, the music, the food... after traveling the globe for most of my life, I've finally found the place I can honestly call 'Home'. I can't imagine living anywhere else.
oceanside and escondido suck...
pacific beach, la jolla, mission bay, downtown, little italy... all nice places.
I love SD too....
in particular staying on Coronado & tripping around downtown & that (what's it called) gaslamp/gaslight/gas-something district?
live bands at the clubs, good restaurants, laid back people....nice climate most of the year...
only a 6 hour drive for me to be there....
